Loss of appetite??

Hey all I had a quick question...my subadult male has always been a chow hound, he is about 6 months old so is fed every day. He spends most of his time in a moist hide(repti shelter cave) and I recently changed the substrate in it from eco-earth to a sphagnum moss. It seems that since then he has lost his appetite. Is this just do to change of his environment, and he is just settling back in?

Three possible reasons:
-settling in, as you mentioned
-getting to the size where he doesn't need to eat every day
-reacting to the winter and slowing down on food intake
