how about a thread of incidents where we accidentally caused a gecko to loose its tail? i know it may be embarrasing to tell the truth, but this may help other people to not make the same mistakes? i have not lost any tails yet, and i would like to make sure i keep it that way! why do some people get geckos in the mail and loose tails?

If a gecko is really afraid and very stressed out it could drop its tail, thats why they might lose a tail in shipping.

i wrote here not too long ago about my gecko that i got in the mail that half of her tail was off. well somehow it didnt come all of the way off and healed back up. I havent messed with her since then so she isnt spooked. but mailing the gecko is preety scary especially if the mail people hold the package upside down or flip it around.

Yeah BUT-I for one have had geckos delivered with that clearly marked on the box and the driver was bouncing the package up and down or holding it upside down
I snatched it from them real quick

I have an adult leo who, when I was cleaning the tank, lost her tail. I was pulling the house out, and it hit the top of the tank, causing me to loose my grip and it dropped. It nicked my girls tail and was easily fixable, but she thought she was being attacked; she turned around and ripped it off. It is healing back nicely though. I'll post a pic. Let me go snap one and it will be up in a few!!!!

We had a lost tail due to an unfortunate cat attack. The poor leo never recovered (too much stress) and died. That was my very first leo of 5 years, and so a tail dropping is very significant to me - I think I would totally freak out and cry in a corner somewhere if another one of my leos dropped their tail.

It happening during shipment REALLY freaks me out. One female that I bought came to me upside down inside of her deli-cup, but she was just fine; I don't think she had any clue that she was upside-down.

I have 1 gecko with no tail at the moment; I honestly don't know exactly how he got injured. Either he bit himself during feeding or he had a heat burn on the tip of the tail. The problem is the tail didn't drop, but it became necrotic, so I took him to our vet to get his tail surgically removed.

Although his tail will not regenerate, he is doing very well at the moment. This week, his weight even surpassed one of my other adult male!! He is at 78g now without a tail!
