I had to put Lucas down. It wasn't a hard decision to make... it was just so sad to have to say good-bye to him. He was savagely mauled by a female that wanted no part of breeding, and the injury permanently paralyzed him from his upper spine down. He could not turn around, or even right himself when he fell over. I had to manually stimulate him to defecate because he had no control over his bowels. He could only eat on his own if the mealworm bowl was put in front of him or a cricket walked past, and boy, did he try to catch them!
Lucas was one of the very first Tremper Reverse Stripes. I got him from RT when he was only 21 grams, and he arrived missing 6 out of 10 toes, and it took almost 3 months for him to eat! I dropper-fed him until he would feed on his own, and it's funny how we bond with little creatures that we have to nurse along. His sweet demeanor, gentle nature, and darling smile won my heart!
Lucas fathered many beautiful little reverse stripes, and sadly I never kept any of them. I wish I had... they are the last of a long-gone legacy. Now, reverse-striped Trempers are diluted into APTORs and RAPTORs.
Thanks for letting me share. I sure do miss Lucas' sweet smile...
