Its Leona.. she is starting to get a skinny tail.. and I can't tell why..

Heat is up to 90-92 on the hot side..
3-4 crickets per day.. and she HAS been eating..
the substrate is a roll of green mat carpet stuff..
she has water.. and a cave to nap in..
And I put a bowl of calcium powder in the tank. I'm not sure if she uses it at all.

;(.. she tried to poop today and nothing came out.. its like she isen't getting food or something. She looks thin not bloated..

Help!

I would post this under health and meidcations. You'll get more responses. I would say it probably has parasites and needs to go to the vet.

At this time, knowing the previous problems, I would recommend a trip the vet.
There is a possibility of a parasitic infestation.

The animal in the picture is still a young juvie and has a regen tail also. It is not going to have an extra fat tail until it has grown more. The current energy is being used for general growth.

.. if you can't tell the images tails are COMPLETELY different. She is just very thin.. she used to be so much fatter. :(

Turns out she does NOT have parasites.. WONDERFUL!
The doctor was amazing. He even showed me on a screen what made what he found a negative based finding. A wonderful Doctor explains things clearly and helped me with some other problems like "making sure they get calcium" so on and so forth.
What Leona has is a respiratory problem. So anti-biotic for 30 days. Getting her to drink it will be interesting. But I'll manage I'm sure.
Stress causes such things. Moving from my home to my dorm room. Then the heat outage in my room might have caused this.

I took her to "the odd pet vet" He has his office at the wildlife center in South Weymouth.

Congrats on the fairly clean bill of health! I'm sure your little one must be feeling better now that it has some antibiotics in it.

Yeah she is. She is still sleeping alot but I don't blame her. I myself have an eye infection and I just want to sleep too!.. lol so we both are on antibiotics! haha

eh I'm not out of the forest apparently. Its been little bit over a week now. And I give her the drops every morning before classes. She is eating like one cricket once in a blue moon. But now she walks then takes a rest.. then gets up and walks around then takes a rest. I don't know whats up with her.

I remember the doctor telling me to give her drops for 30 days. is this due to the fact that gecko's take a LONG time to heal?

One thing I'm noticing about my gecko and those in the pet store is.. The rib cage on most gecko's moves in and out. Leona's doesn't move at all. Maybe that is the problem?

Well...if she has a respiratory problem, I am sure that is reason enough for her rib cage not moving correctly (I am assuming when she breathes)

I feel like such an idiot!.. lol. I was looking at my gecko for "whats the problem" but really it was me. I have not been shaking the antibiotics correctly... The two liquids divided.. so thats the reason.. So yes.. I'm shaking it now.. Doctor called and said about a week and a half and there should be a change.. it might be a slight change but a change.

Can you tell us what the name of the medication is? Keep in mind that antibiotic treatments can cause all the 'good' bacteria in their gut to die off as well. It can upset their tummy and make them not want to eat right away.... sometimes they feel worse before they feel better.

Glad she had a fairly good check-up and nothing horribly wrong. Hopefully the antibiotics will start doing their job!

On a side note--Whenever my furry pets are put on antibiotics, we always give Fasttrax, which helps maintain the levels of beneficial bacterias in the system. Marcia, or anyone else, know if this is something that geckos can have as well? Or a similar product? I was just thinking (yikes!)........:main_rolleyes:
