okay so I really dont know if my jungle is a male or female yet, im going to wait another month before I take a picture and let everyone here correct me, I think shell be about 5-6 months in that time...is that old enough to tell.?. if it turns out to be male I still want to house them together with my bell albino female if everything is okay after the quarantine is thorough and completed and I will probably take them both out for a week each day and let them interact....the main reason I want to house them is that me and my gf purchased a big tank in hopes of purchasing a 2nd gecko female which we did and eventually house them together in a nice setup tank. 2 Questions

1. Employee said even if its male throw it in and toss the eggs, with that being said I was told females lay eggs anyways but there infertile, whats the best way of 'tossing' the eggs...simply just throwing them out?.

2. Has anyone had bad experiences with a male and female with the female not wanting to mate and aggression occurs?.

Nothing is final, but I didnt buy the 2nd gecko with intent of housing two.

I don't think that is a good idea, the male might stress out the female ( by wanting to mate) and pet store employees aren't always honest.

I don't think that is a good idea either. Constant pressure to mate can cause aggression or just stress the female out, or there could be food aggression, either way injury can occur. Overall it can just be a big mess. I suggest housing them seperate but I personally house all my geckos seperate.

Females can become emaciated and die after egg laying. So unless you want to breed, don't do it to your female! I lost several during breeding. And there's nothing you can do about it.

Yea, breeding takes a lot out of a female, regardless of the species! If they breed constantly (animals don't care about longevity) it will shorten her life. If it's a male just buy a tank divider (if this will still stress out the female let me know.. because I plan on doing this for 3 months with my two newbies who are mixed gender) and make sure your divider is a good one. You will still have one tank to clean but you won't be killing the female.

thanks guys, i wont take the risk...just praying its a female now. and i like that idea desdemona...but i dont think my tank is big enough to have a divider and fulfill both needs.....i have a 24x18x18 exoterra tank...now that i looked at it i think that can be done actually.

post pics of your leo's bum! Im sure some of us can give you answers on sexing. If you little leo is not cooperative then place the leo in a glass container and take pics from the bottom.

+1 to all the advice above.

You could always look on craigs list for tanks, the one I am splitting is a 40 Gal breeder tank that I paid I think 30 bucks for. Huge tank, good price, and both of my Leos will have plenty of space. Once my quarantine period is over then I will have two females, with the divider.

Keep in mind too, an unwilling female could result in a fight between the animals and one or both could get injured or worse.

This is a link to someone else's post who had a fight occur and there are pictures of what happened to the animal. She lived and the male was retired. Someone other than the original poster also posted pictures that had the same thing happen.

This can happen during normal breeding, but I would think if they are left in a tank together (even divided - I had a female get into a male's side and still haven't figure out how she scaled over the plexiglass with nothing to climb.) the chances would be higher?
