My male Leo is about 4-5 y/o now. About a year ago I introduced a female tank mate. They have been fine (producing egg's, hanging out in the hides together, cruising the tank together etc) up until the last couple weeks

I have three times now heard my male doing the "tail twitch" and found him confronting the female - (JUST NOW CAUGHT HIM DOING IT AGAIN for the 4th time, they are close to snouts about 2-3 inches apart).

The third time I heard it which was about 30 minutes ago- I moved him away from her and put him in an opposite corner of the tank. Within 30 minutes - he was back up on the platform where she was and is doing the tail twitch again.

What is going on? I have observed him and her doing little nips at each others tails recently (nothing that could be considered an attack) at each other right around the same time I have caught him confronting her with his tail twitching.

Is this normal?

Its breeding season. He's probably trying to mate with her. If his attempts start becoming more aggressive and she is not ready to mate yet you might have a decent fight on your hands. If she is ready you'll have eggs soon. Either way breeding can be fairly violent and the geckos do wind up with bites from time to time.

I just had to separate a male and female who had been living together pretty much without incident year round (the female doesn't ovulate and doesn't produce eggs). Sometimes they just change their patterns.
