Some geckos take longer than others to get comfortable with there new home. Some geckos eat right away while others could take more than a week to come around.

IMO a male and female should not be housed together. The only time they should be together is for breeding and that is only for a short period of time.

If you house them in seperate enclosures then it will be easier to keep track of who is eating what.

House your geckos seperately.
When you house them together it can add stress to either gecko.
Your female could be a bully, and eventually cause health problems to either gecko.
If they breed and not full condition to do so, you may lose your female.
Buy a new set up and remove the female (since shes already eating well).

I agree. NEVER house a male and female together. Leopard geckos are solitary animals and really don't want company, unless it's for mating. My leo is all by herself in a 20 gallon long and couldn't be any fatter or happier. (Or MORE spoiled. hahahah)

the person we had gotten these two from housed them together for a year, theyre both good sized and healthy, they get along great and love laying with eachother. the male definitely shows affection to the female and the other way around, i Havent seen them show any hostility at all towards eachother.
We actually got him eating last night. we think he just needed to get used to be in our apartment instead of his old house. I have never been told you cant have two together but he ate his worms last night, I plan on giving him more tonight when he comes out, I gave them to them later last night when he was more active so that he would actually see me putting them in, also I led him to his bowl with the worm so he would see where I was putting them. we have the vitamin powder to dust them with. and they have proper hides/temperatures/lights/substrate etc. I think he was just stressed from being in a new home, not from her.

It doesnt matter how long they were together before you had them, its not appropriate.
Geckos do not show love and affection. When they are laying on eachother, one is dominating the other. The one on the bottom will be stressed.
You can take our advice or leave it, if you chose to keep them together you WILL probably, eventually have problems.

Since youve never been told this before, would you like us to send you multiple links stating that geckos should not be housed together? ESCPECIALLY males and females.

I wouldn't keep a male and female together even if geckos were social animals. Just for the risk of offspring. I've read females can start ovulating if a male is present before they're physically capable of handling developing and laying multiple clutches.

Well, I personally wouldn't house a male and female together year round, but there are breeders that house 1.2 or 1.3 in a community setup. If someone is new to gecko husbandry it is best to get all husbandry spot on and gain some experience with geckos before experimenting with community groups. Making blanket statements that the ONLY way to keep a gecko is individually is making personal experience/opinion fact instead of a recommendation is a little misleading. I believe this kind of thinking is not what this community needs. We need to facilitate new keepers to learn proper husbandry and care for their reptiles and to learn the different options they choose have pros and cons so that they are making informed choices.

Its my personal opinion and experience that keeping males and females together full time will result with problems.
Individually housing them takes away many risks.
This person is new, and might miss signs and symptoms of a bullied or stress animal. Until further notice, I stick with my statement that its not appropriate.

I know several breeders that do this during the breeding season in groups as large as 1.4.... but not year round. Not saying that no breeders do, I just don't know any.
