Since you can play a role in the gender of your offspring how do you make the choice to temp sex for male or female? Especially if your goal is to mainly sell. Do people tend to buy one gender over the other?

well some of my projects I will need to line breed so I will probably temp sex 3/4 for female and 1/4 for male and the others I will do mostly female. Females sell more than males do but males are more expensive.

Most breeders temp sex for female for several reasons. They can be housed together without breeding as juveniles if need be. Males must be housed alone, as in not with another male. If you have a lot of babies, you run can out of space fast! One male can breed with numerous females, they like having a harem. When looking for a specific male, it can sometimes be difficult to find a good one within your price range.

However, temp sexing is not 100% accurate!

I was already thinking of doing mostly females just in case no one wants geckos from a first time breeder. I will have an enigma so I don't want to sell them as pets to people who are unfamiliar with Leos. That is assuming they aren't all born as spinners or whatever. I guess one perk of the spaced out eggs is that I don't have to pick one gender for all. I might try one set of males and the rest female.

I've been incubating for female for the last 7 seasons for the reasons someone stated above. I usually get 1 male per season out of 40-50 leos. Ironically, this season I raised the temp a little to about 83 and have not gotten any visual males yet (and all the eggs have hatched).
