Male troubles...

So, one my females started to ovulate, so I introduced the male to the females enclosure. The male was responsive and started to the "tail rattle", but he wouldn't go in and "do the deed" so to speak lol. So I decided to leave them in with eachother, and they have been together for about 2 days now.

So I was just wondering why the male wouldn't mate even when he rattled his tail. And also, what are some things to look for to see if they have bred.

Thanks in advance!

There are males that you will never see mate. Some prefer to do it in private, it seems. The best thing to look for to see if they've bred is eggs.

look for any bruises, bite marks or cuts along the tail or torso or head.Mine usually have some sort of mark on them. You might not see them mate everytime.I would leave them together for another 2 days.

I seperated them this morning, and as far as i can tell, I see no evidence of any breeding. Should I re-introduce them in a few days?

From your post i think you've kept them together for what 5 days? That should be enough time. Are u sure she was ovulating? If your definately sure she was ovulating, it'll take a week for u to see the eggs.Just because she doesnt show any bite marks that doesnt mean they didnt mate

Thanks for all the help so far guys!
Without a doubt she is ovulating, Im 100% sure. I'll keep a look out for eggs in her belly. And yes the male is a first timer.

I leave my geckos together during breeding season until they start laying eggs because yes sometimes they need to be comfortable together before they would do anything. Breeding can sometimes be complicating and sometimes as easy as putting them on top of the cage and they just have at it. Which happen to me a long time ago. So just leave thme together its more successful then interrupting all the time

Thanks Chaz, Ill do that. He's in middle of a shed so I'll let him finish up that in his own enclosure before i re-introduce. I think im starting to see one egg starting to develop (where the ovulation spot was), it looks like a white blotch that I dont ever remember seeing before. Is it weird that theres only 1? Will she only lay 1 egg her first clutch or should another egg develop?
