Males and Females

I am wondering if you can house males and females together, even if the female doesn't weigh enough to safely lay eggs. I have no idea if my female is ovulating or not, but she weighs about 36g.

Also, how close in weight do cage mates have to be? 5g? 10g? 15g?

Thanks,

You should not house males and females together unless they are big enough and old enough to be bred and that is your intention. The general rule is 50g and 1 year old for breeding size and age. Leos can start ovulating at 25g or 4 or 5 months old and a male will try to mate with them. It can be vary dangerous for females to become gravid at that size and is a huge stress on their little bodies. It's best to just keep them separate so that there's no chance of a mating taking place. It can only take a few seconds.

Do not house male and females together that young. You will find in alot of post breeding weights. If she breeds that young and that weight, you will give her alot of health complications and possible death.

OK. Thanks for the answers. I didn't realize they started ovulating so young. I know how dangerous it is for younger/lighter females to get pregnant.
