So, I have placed my breeding pairs together for the season, and I've noticed something about my males.
When I go down to check on them, I notice my females are usually in one hide or the other, and my males are either out and about, or they are sitting right on top of the hide the female is in.
And they aren't just laying on top of the hide the female is in, they are sitting on top with their heads held high, like they are on guard.
Is this a typical behavior of the males when placed in with females?
I also have noticed that my males are out and about way more than my females.
I don't want to say that it's "guarding" behavior as in they are guarding their females, but could it be an ownership type deal? Like, "This is MY turf".
Or is it possible that they want to be near the female, but the female has kicked them out of the hide, so they resort to sitting on the hide the female is in?
I've just noticed it with almost ALL my breeding males this season.
