One of my males loses 15-20 grams every year between the beginning of fall and the middle of breeding season, then it comes back on. At his maximum, he's about 110 grams.
All of my males except my bell have showed little intrest in feeding since the first female started cycling. And now that almost all of my females are cycling im sure it will be a while before they do again. One has lost 10 grams (hes was the biggest breeder this year) and another has lost 8 grams (second biggest breeder this year). Then I had one fiesty female bite a male who freaked out and dropped his tail so he has lost weight too.
Its natural, right now they only have one thing on their mind...
my giant male has lost a bit of weight over the past few weeks and has not interest in eating. I tried opening his mouth to to give him a mealie last night and got one in. The second time he took a sizable chunk out of finger. So i think i'm going to leave him alone. He's only lost about 4 grams. My other male red stripe who only mated once and got prolapse is doing the same and I'm worried because he lost a good amount of weight do to stress over three days of vet visits and finally an amputation of the hemipene. I've been crushing mealies and supers into a goo with pedialite and syringe feeding him each night to try and keep some nutrition in him so he can recoupe.
I'm going to move the red stripe to the bottom of my rack to keep him from smelling the phermones from the ladies and hopefully get him back on track.
