Hi there guys,

Once again I need some help, I am marking my leo eggs with a #2 pencil since from what a read this was the only safe way, but hi've seen some black top marks on some breeders eggs is there any ink marker that can be used for this purpose without harming the little leos inside???

Thanks
Bruno

I think you can use a Sharpie marker just fine, it's what I'm using, and so far all the eggs are fine. I've never heard of a pencil...

I've always been leary of using markers since the eggs are semi-permeable, or at least seem to be. I just incubate eggs individually, and I've never had a problem. I'm usually pretty careful about opening/closing cups.

I've heard though that sharpie is ok.

Maybe the non-toxic washable markers.

I have always used different colored Sharpies and have had 11 out of 12 fertile eggs so far.. I really don't think the Sharpie has any harmfeul effects. IMO, I'd be more afraid to use a pencil because it seems like it would take more pressure to make the mark

Thanks for the answers,

Jess that is exactly why I wanted to konw if there was something beside the pencil I could use, cause some times eggs are hard to write on with the pencil.

Sorry for my ignorance, Sharpies are washable or just a normal color pen?

Thanks

on my first egg I used an ultra-fine point sharpie and almost poked a hole through the egg (didn't realize how tender the eggs were). From that point on I use a regular sharpie and the ink typically doesn't bleed and def. helps keeping them safe and secure.

I must have gentle hands because I marked 300+ eggs already this year with a ultra fine. I use a fine point on the really dirty ones(sometimes the substrate gets a little dry and sticks to the eggs alot)
