My little one has MBD, when we bought her she walked funny and we just assumed thats how she walked, we thought it was part of her character as she didn't absorb all her yolk as a baby, we have had her for under a year and shes almost 2 now ..

Thursday she was fine (not eaten in 3 weeks but i live in Doncaster and am a student in liverpool so when shes been moved she usually takes about 2 weeks to settle and start eating again) well she hasnt started eating and her walking turned to awkward on friday, saturday is when we noticed something was terribly wrong as she wouldnt hold her head up and her jaw was floppy .. time for the vets!

Monday was vets visit and they confirmed my theory that it is MDB .. the monkey cost me £112 in vets fees and medication but now shes not swallowing them and keeps bringing the liquid calcium back up .. shes uncomfortable and doesnt want to do anything but stay in one spot, its horrible to see and i feel so helpless .. any suggestions??

Try getting some calcium powder, dipping your finger in some water then the powder and rubbing it on her jaw, might encourage her to lick it off your finger... And possibly leave a little container with some calcium without d3 in with her for a while? hope she gets better soon :)

sorry to hear of your loss, im always so scared about mine ever getting MBD.
Also id like to just add one thing. Calcium for geckos should always be bought with an active vitamin D3 in it. as the D3 is vital for the adsorption of the calcium. without the D3 the calcium taken in will just pass right out again.

I was always under the impression that leopards can o.d on vit d3 and to only give it to them once a week.

If you were giving it to them in a concentrated form yes perhaps. but if your dusting your food with an already prepared calcium mix, then no. as all the ingredients are carefully weighted out added and mixed for you.
Without the vitamin D3 there is no point giving your gecko calcium as it will not be broken down in the body correctly and just passes straight out the other side.
I have quickly found one article that says the same thing: http://www.vetark.co.uk/pages/Leopard-geckos.aspx?pageid=231 and there are many many more studies that all confer.
