i just wanted to know what do you think, is it a good idea to start a meal worm colinie for just 2 leos or is it just better to buy them at the store.and also do meal worms colinies smell bad? and are they hard to take care of.

:main_thumbsup: AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU INADVANCE FOR YOUR FEED-BACK:main_thumbsup:

well, i think its worth it. :D

its not hard, and i think its fun, and it does not smell bad at all. i keep mine on dry oatmeal, so they smell like... dry oatmeal. :D

I have one gecko and a mealworm farm. I smell food when I smell mine, lol. My farm is new - about 6 beetles and 4 pupas so far. It is quite fun for the kids, they love looking for the changes in the boxes.

i have never delt with meal worms. as soon as i got my leos the shortage hit and my point is are they like super worms because i am a siccy when it comes to them. do you think that it would be easyer to own a wax worm colinie since they are pretty cool and not scary.

(and i know i sound like a siccy girl)

thanks for your comments

Breeding your own in my opinion is always better. My colony is pretty big I breed in sweater boxes and always have at least 1000 in a Rubber Maid shoe box in the frig. for daily feeding. I feed them a mix of bran, oatmeal, cornmeal, pulverized chicken mash, and carrots, apple, or potato for moisture. As far as smell, crickets smell mealies really don't.

Wax worm colony is cool but they are to fatty. They should be fed as a treat not really part of their regular diet. Meal worms are also not as creepy as super meal worms.
