I found a strange tiny worm-like beatle-ish thing in my mealie container. Can anyone post a pic of a mealie beatle? i flushed the bug down the toilet as i didnt know what it was, but i would like to see a pic incase i find another and it is a beatle.
Thanks!

If it looked like a little white alien, it's the pupae stage. If you pick it up the tail end flickers hopelessly. They're the worst part about keeping a colony. They creep me out, lol.

a lot of people would kill for some mealworm pupae right now because of the shortage! I haven't seen a single one in my mealies in about 3 weeks... grrrrr...

Really? I leave the mealies in dishes in the tanks & always end up taking out at least 1 pupae a week. Heat up some mealies & you should have some better luck...as in let them sit out at room temp ;)

I've only had one in months and it died. They haven't been changing at all lately.

one of the issues with the mealie shortage is that they will not pupate... I used to get them all the time, but recently, they are all just dying... and pretty quick too. :( huge bummer....

Hopefully this will all be over soon.

That doesnt look anything like what I had. What I had was grey and looked like a mini mealie and was moving really fast. :main_huh::main_huh:

I seem to get one of those damn things every day that I look in the container :p I crush their heads with my tweezers... The worst thing happened once though, one of them popped RIGHT in my eye when I crushed its head, it was so nasty.. I really wish they wouldn't keep trying to evolve :S

I don't think they do, but does anyone know if the Darkling beetles they evolve into can fly? I just want to know if I have to worry about opening the container one day and having some beetle fly out :p

I heard that they can fly, but never seen them fly. I read somewhere they won't fly as long as there is plenty of food to eat.

mine have never flown and they can't climb smooth surfaces either. they'll only fly if they're starving supposedly.
