Out of lazyness, I have been feeding my leos mealies for about the past week and a half.
As you guys know, I dont like mealies as a staple diet for several reasons, one of which is the fact that they contain low moisture.
I have noticed the past few days, their poop is very small (they are eating like 10 or so mealies a day) and drier then normal.
I think the mealies are causing some constipation?!

I know leos depend on the moisture in their food to keep them regular (just like humans, but we do drink more water to make up for it).

Has anyone else noticed any constipation w/ mealie diet? I know alot of you do feed mealies as a staple.

I have been feeding my crix nice juicy pears for the past few days, so tonight my leos will dine on some very well gutloaded crix.

I hope that will help get them back to regular BM's

are you coating them with cal? super worms are the way to go....what size are these leos? what size mealies? I main reason they would be constipated is a up and down temp.......

My leos are all from this years breeding, they are about 5 months old and about 6 or so inches long.

I dust w/ calcium plus every day.
I noticed again yesterday, their poops are really small for the volume of
food they are eating.

I am going to just feed crix for the next few days and see what happens.

I think mealies do cause a bit of constipation. My leo poops less often when on a strictly mealworm diet. I dont think its a health risk though. Varying their diet should get things "moving".
