Mealies vs crickets

I'm a newbie and realize that there are thousands of opinions in what's the best food for leos... but I have had no luck getting them to eat mealies? Even when I got a shipment end where they had been eating mealies... I couldn't get them interested in them. Yes, I put them in a smal tray, put enough in to get them all moving... even tried to hand feed with a tweezers, and they weren't interested. Finally got them to eat crickets. Is there a trick I'm missing or do I just have choosy leo's?

Are you just holding the mealie in front of their face with the tweezers? My gecko is spoiled, so I make his bugs run past his face and that usually does the trick. Maybe try to get the bug to crawl across the ground where he can see it.

I've tried to movement in front, the crawling in front of them... even asked the breeder I got them from and his instructions were to fill the dish so that the mealies all move around...tried that as well. He said they were eating only mealies when he had them... now I can only get them to eat crickets!

My concern is the summertime in this area. I'm in Palm Springs which will run over 100 degrees for several weeks in a row. Would be much easier dealing with mealies in the summertime than trying to find a cooler place for 1000 crickets. The geckos can be in the house... but the crickets are a different issue to wives!

I would try Blaptica dubia roaches to raise they are far more nutritious and easier to keep and raise then either crickets or Mealworms
