MEALIES!!!!!!!!!

My dad made me call the petshop near our house to see if they had crickets. When I called, they did, and I went to get them. As I was leaving, I asked a lady if they had mealies(they haven't had them the last few weeks) and she said they didn't have the regular sized mealies, but they had small ones. (They had supers too, so my skink was happy!) As it turnes out, the small ones were the size I usually get, and they were pretty big!(Well, for my geckos anyway :D) I bought 100(I usually get 50) because I didn't know when the next time I will be able to get mealies is going to be . I'm hoping to see if I can breed the mealies(I found a dead beetle in one of the mealie containers) and I would like to get some suggestions:

1) What should I use for bedding? Right now I have them in about 3" of (oatmeal/Pro Geckos gutload) bedding with red apple pieces for water.

2) Is there anything I should know about breeding mealies? Like what temperature or where they need to be?

3) I think the container I have all 100 in is about 10-11"L X 5-6" W and 7-9" H. Is that ok?

Thanks!
Emily

You could take some bedding out. I only use about half an inch.
Good temps to keep them at is 75 to 80F.
You can also use sliced potatos too for food but apples are good also.
Also, try getting atleast 50 more if you can. Some people have pulled it of with about 100 but when I started mine I had about 250.
Your container should be fine but if you get more I would get a bigger one. If you do that there will always be enough space for more if needed and less cleaning will be needed.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks! Ummm I don't know what my room temp is, but it should be somewhere in the hight 70's, lower 80's. Is that ok? And do you think my container will fit 50 more if I get another container of mealies?

Thanks!

Another pack of mealies should fit in there. The only reason I said that is it's less cleaning with a bigger enclosure.
Your temps should keep them fine. Just don't let it get over 85F any, otherwise some may die off. If it gets under 70F, they grow alot slower.
Do you have any pics? If you don't that's fine I was just curious.

I'm not home right now(I'm at my granparents) but when I get home I'll get the actual measurements & pix. FYI just incase this helps, I have kept mealies in my room for a couple weeks and none have died in my room before, so I dont think my temps are too high :D. The only dead I have found(ever) are the ones that are already dead in the container when I got them. The container is one of those critter carriers with the plastic ventalation top. Sound familiar?........I'll get pix when I get home :D.

Yeah, I know those. That's good though, that the temps are good. I just realized you have 4 Leos! You might need some more mealies. But that's okay, you can get them periodically too. :)

Two of them aren't mine, and one of them won't eat the mealies. She will only eat the waxworms, otherwise, she is a cricket gecko :D. The other one doesn't get htem that often, or else she will eat all of my mealies!!!!! :p. I'll post some pix of them if you want to see them. I have them uploaded on photobucket. My other 2 get offered a few mealies every day. I don't want them to have too many, cuz they still need to eat their crix :D. I feed the mealies kinda like healthy treats for every day.
