Yes, although if they are directly under a heat lamp they can bake if the gecko doesn't eat them right away.

I put mine in the middle of the tank.

i also put mine in the middle of the tank. My leo knows right where it is. Even if i try to be quiet she can still hear it and comes running to it.

I put mine right next to the water bowl so if mine are hunger and thirsty they do not need to go far.I never had a mealie drown in the water.
