mealworm dish

i give my girls a dish of mealworms always in there cage

but what do you guys put in the bottom?

i usually just put calcium in the bottom and that is their calcium and mealworm dish but do you guys put something else in there?

also would it be ok to put a large(not small enough for the geckos to get in their mouth) peice of carrot/apple for the mealies to munch on or would that not be good?

I put a little gutload in the bottom and sprinkle them with calcium. A piece of carrot should be fine as well.

what if the gecko gets some of the gutload?

Any dish recommendations? I've checked Walmart for ash trays but I couldn't see them anywhere and nobody who works there even knew Walmart sells em. Maybe we don't get them here in Canada?

If you've got a Dollarama in your area, they sell little glossy dishes for flower pots (you can get them in green, blue, and a couple of other colours), and they are about 4" in diameter. I've tried a bunch of different dishes and theses were the only ones I could get to work. The worms can't get out even though the sides of the dish aren't very high.

They're ceramic that's been painted and then covered with a clear glaze, I found them with the gardening supplies.
