I was wondering if I coulld just feed my gecko mealworms 24/7 (in a bowl) plus a feeding or two of roaches on the weekend. Would that be OK? If not, what do you suggest/ what do you feed your geckos?

I don't have the space, funds, or time to breed insects, so I'm just going to purchase batches of mealies and roaches every 2 weeks to a month. Can mealies and roaches be gutloaded at room temp (60-75F) and survive for a couple weeks?

That's what I'm doing - except that I can't get roaches up here so crickets will have to do. Tiamat loves her mealies and will eat the occasional cricket so I'm forced to constantly provide them for her. :)

Sweet! This will be A LOT easier than having to deal with smelly, jumpy crickets, or having to breed any insect for that matter and the accompanied need for heating pads, ect. All I need is a Kritter Keeper and some gutload! (sorry for my rant)

Haligren, have you tried Big Apple Herp? I know they sell roaches- though I do not know if they ship to Canada.

How old is your Leo?

A JV could eat 10 or so mealys a day and an Adult could eat 10 every other day.

So get a container (a 6 by 6 by 4 size), put some gutload mix in it, with some ground up oatmeal or bran if you want.

Since you are not breeding you do not need to worry so much about grain mites.

In the container, put two inches of substrate/bedding (gutload mix & other stuff) in it, put your mealies in the container, and cut a carrot in half length wise and put on top of the substrate.

Your mealies should stay as mealies for ... some time like a week or maybe two. So you can buy a 100 or so every two weeks.

They do not go in the frig, they stay out and eat. At night you take some out and feed your Leo.

If you get any Aliens then, toss them out.

Keep adding mealworms as you use them.

In a Month or so, toss out the substrate and start again.
