Mealworms eating inside/out

I was purchasing mealworms from my local pet store today. Up until now, I have only used crickets and wax worms because I was told to stay away from mealworms because their exoskeletons are hard to digest. The employee there told me today to be careful because some mealworms can even eat there way out of the gecko! I had never heard that!

Is there truth to this? If so, I'm not going to use mealies!

Ive heard a rumor or 2 about super worms. Many ppl including myself feed mealies with no problem.

There is some evidence that superworms can cause damage to the stomach lining if the gecko eats them too quickly without biting on the head, but there certainly is nothing that can "eat its way out of a gecko." I've never heard any instance of mealworms causing any damage as they are much smaller. And as long as the gecko is getting proper temperatures and its digestion is working efficiently, the exoskeleton shouldn't be an issue.
