what can i do to prevent them? I have a store bought feeding dish and they manage to crawl over and out, and then hide under my repticarpet. I tried cutting a cup and using that temporarily but it's too high and lexi doesnt seem to know what's going on with that.. any advice?

& also, how often should i dust the mealworms with calcium? and with vitamins? she's a 5 week babe :p

Try getting a bowl with a lipped edge, or a specially cut hole in a lid of a little tub, big enough for your gecko to get into, but a good cm away from the edge of the dish 360 degrees around, that should solve your problem of the mealies getting out.

As for dusting, I leave calcium in the bottom of the feeder dish all the time (only a little bit) and they get themselves covered in calcium, or you can put them in a bag before with calcium and shake it, This should be done every feeding, as for vitamins you should only really be dusting with them once or twice a week depending on how often you feed your gecko.

I've been eying the Exo Terra Worm Dish, it looks like it would solve your problem.

Currently however, I use dishes I bought at my local pet store as "Kitten Food Bowls." They're glazed ceramic, and tall, so mealworms, superworms, and even moderately sized Dubia are incapable of escaping. Barring standing on each others' shoulders. Tricksy Dubia.

I am now using these dishes for food dishes. I have one of the exo-terra meal worm dishes but I have had about a dozen of the super worms get out of the bowl. These dishes work great they are too slippery for the supers to get out and too deep for the regulars to get out.

I use these for my 2 month old right up to adults. Any one under 2 months gets souffle lids.

They are $2 each at my pet store

We use 3" clay saucers ($0.75 at your local craft store). They are deep enough so the worms don't crawl out, yet shallow enough for the leos to see the worms. We've had great success using them, with no more than 20 mealworms.

Good luck!

I have a small clay dish that I got from the rodent section in the pet shop. The meal worms can't get out, but my gecko also can't see them and so never eats them from the dish! So I would avoid those high-sided clay dishes.
