Mealworms munching newspaper a problem?

I bought 500g of mealworms and some have munched some holes in the newspaper they were sent with.

Would feeding these mealworms to my gecko be a problem?

I'd obviously feed them some veg and stuff before hand

It probably wouldnt do your leo any harm, but to be on the safe side, I would wait a day to give the mealies a chance to poop out that paper!
They will not have any nutrient content in them with all that paper.

I dont understand the reason they were packed in newspaper instead of substrate. Here in the USA most newspaper is printed with soy ink now so it shouldnt really be a problem. You can feed them for a few days to clean them out if you are worried.

What is disturbing however is that you are using mealworms as feeders instead of silkworms and roaches among other things. Break the horror that is crickets and mealworms.

I dont think it is uncommon for mealworms to be shipped in paper. They have always been sent to me that way. Then placed in a mesh cloth bag. Gutload them for 24 to 48 hours before you feed them and you will be fine. Mealworms are a good cost effective feeder for your geckos.

Feed them some good stuff for a day or two to push that paper out of them and replace it with vitamins and minerals (good stuff!!) :main_yes:
