Mimicking my behavior

I mentioned in an earlier thread that I've been trying a trick I use with cats to get my baby gecko to feel more comfortable around me. I blink/close my eyes a lot around him as to not appear as a predator staring at him.

My gecko likes to wink sometimes - so whenever he winks I'll wink as well. Last night when I came home he was sleeping in his little house. See here:

He woke up and was very alert looking at me, so I began to close my eyes while looking at him. Then I decided to wink - and he winked back at me! So i opened my winked eye, and he followed suit shortly.

I tested it a few more times to make sure it wasn't a coincidence. He followed suit every time. I even switched eyes. Smart little creature!

I've had him for a week today! I'm torn between being anxious for him to grow into a full size gecko and wanting him to stay young forever haha

I taught my gecko the winking thing too! He just doesn't do it in front of my dad. LOL

If I make eye contact with one of my little boys, they usually come straight over to me.
