Minimum Tub Size for Single Adult Leopard Gecko

I am having some trouble decided a new system to house all of my geckos in. I have been doing some research on the internet on this and it seems like everybody is housing their adults in 15-16 quart tubs. However, after doing some research I have come to the conclusion that the 12 quart and the 15 quart are practically the same size.

12 quart: 16 7/8" x 11 1/2" x 5 7/8"
15 quart: 17 x 11.1 x 6.5 inches

The only major difference in size between the two are the height. The height isn't going to be much help in a rack system IMO. The length and the width make up the difference of each other since the length is 1/8" bigger than the 12 qt but the 12 qt width is .4" bigger than the 15 qt.

So my questions are: What does everyone think the minimal size for a single adult gecko tub should be, and are 12 quarts to small to house an adult gecko in, and if they are, wouldn't 15-16 qt's be to small also?

Clear as mud? Good... :)

Thanks!

Think the height might depend more on the size (height) of the hide you'll end up using, if the tub is steep enough that they can crawl on the hide and not manage to crawl out of the tub too then it shouldn't be an issue.

Even in a rack, if they have the means to escape they might be able to achieve it. They can squeeze through some pretty tight spaces, but not being at all familiar with a rack I'm just playing devils advocate.

Many breeders use a flat-topped hide, which essentially makes a "second floor" on part of the tub. Could be a bit cramped with the shorter tub?

I personally don't like the idea of a 15 qt tub for an adult gecko. People use it, and I think it's suitable for a juvenile or short-term until a gecko is sold, but if I were to start keeping my adults permanently in racks, I'd be looking at the 28-32 qt sizes. I know a lot of breeders would disagree, but that's just the way I feel.

I use the men's Shoeboxes from the container store. They're about 15x10x5.5 inches. I agree that height doesn't matter too much its more floor space you should care about as long as its over about 5 inches. Under 5 inches and you may have trouble fitting some things in the tub with space for your geckos to climb on them. At least it's a thought for me since I usually stack my moist hide on top of a dry hide on the warm end of the tub.
