Moist hides and getting geckos to use them

I've had my leo for just over 2 weeks and I haven't seen it use its moist hide. I'm kind of concerned about this because I want its first shed in a new environment to go well, but I don't know when it will shed or what it looks like when its about to.

If you have any suggestions how to suggest to my leo to utilize the humid hide please let me know and also of what a leo may look like right before a shed.

Thanks

What do most people use for media - something useful for both the moist hide and laying chamber? I've been paying big bucks for the Flukers green "moss" but other things didn't seem to work as well. I couldn't see them when the eggs were laid in perlite, I heard leos eat vermiculite, and peat looks messy.

i use eco earth, its available at pretty much any local pet store, comes in a brick for like $2.50. You simply put the brick in a bucket and fill the bucket up with hot water and the brick expands, 1 brick is probley enough for like 10 or so moist hide/egg chambers. Very simple to you, you just have to squirt it down every few days to remoist it

Does anyone have a picture of their leo about to shed to help Tyler out?

I haven't seen either of my geckos shed yet, but I think one did. One day it looked like it a much paler shade--almost like it had been covered in a real fine powder. A day or 2 later when I held her again she was bright in color & had a bunch of new spots. I'm assuming that was a shed & I missed it.

You shouldn't have to really. When the time comes, he/she will use it. If you see that it has a bed shed (does not get it off everywhere) and that it is because the humid hide was not used, you can try another hide. Something else may attract it more. From what I have noticed, mine doesn't really use the humid hide, but having one in there makes the air itself humid enough that she is not having any problems at all the last 3 or 4 sheds.
