OKay so this is the 2nd clutch from the pacific greens..
the 1 of 2 of the first were deformed
and both are out of this clutch..
same father differnt mother.

First gecko has NO tail!!!!! did not drop it.. IT JUST DIDNT GROW ONE!!!!
The second has a very nubby tail and the back leg doesnt work.. i mean i bent it the joint is functional but he has no muscle control.. granted this is his first day of life and some geckos need to learn to walk ect.. but things are NOT looking good.

Eep sorry to hear the bad news, were they all incubated for male at a steady temperature?

Same father different mothers, wonder if it's an issue with the male. I wish you good luck in finding out what's causing the deformities.

So Dennis, sorry about results..
[and not that gecko or geckos is not the issue] ..
but my question to you would be Incubation....
how, with what, and what were incubator and room temps?
Most all defect geckos with my friends and my hatchings
have been pinned to incubation.
Take care. HJ

You should look at everything possible. Does your incubator hold a steady temperature inside? I put several digital probe thermometers inside of mine so I can see exactly what temps are going on inside. If your temps are good, then I'd look at the quality of the animals your working with next. Are the parents healthy? Did they come from a reputable breeder who doesn't normally have issues like this? Have you tried contacting them about this? Can you trace back the lineage of the parents and find out how inbred they are or if they have been crossed out with fresh blood recently? I am a huge believer in quality over price, meaning that I never skimp on the quality of the geckos to save money. You get what you pay for. If you feel that the quality is for sure there with this breeder, then it's back to incubation again. These are a couple of things I would eliminate first and then you could maybe narrow it down from there. I hope it gets better for you man. You've had a rough start to this years season.

I'm very sorry that you havent had much luck lately. Do you think that this maybe has something to do with your heater that broke and cost you a lot of geckos(that was you i think?) Anyways just wondering if your incubator was in same room and not sure if your incubator was running off a thermostat or a dimmer.

OKay here is what I KNOW.
-- The geckos are very healthy, all of weight with out calcium deficiencies

--The geckos all have the same father(of which i never bred before. in the past to have gotten normal off spring.)

--2 different mothers. BUT all came from the same breeder..

--this breeder claims never have had and inbreeding problem and he said he never inbreeds at all he also said that he doesnt sell related groups

-- The incubator is set to 83. i have seen temps inside with a separate thermometer reach 82.9 to 83.8

--AND ******* I think Russell might have nailed it these 4 eggs are the ONLY eggs i have left that made it through the broken heater incident where i lost all kinds of geckos.(Heats thermostat broke. room was 97 some tubs were 110+)

Knob tail X Leopard gecko? Thats what I think of when I looked at the photos. The little nubby tails are kind of cute, but its a sad situation. So the theory is, that extreme high temps did this during incubation?

Wow, I really hope these two are the last of your bad luck for a good long time!

Hopefully the next to hatch out prove out the theory that it was the high temps.

Some deformities are commonly attributed to nutrient deficiencies or incubation errors. Tail deformities are often linked to genetics. I hope those were a fluke but we've only have one tail deformity and I'm 99.9% sure it was due to the parents who were retired after that season.

Also wanted to add that it can be a good idea to outcross polygenic traits with geckos from a different breeder. My opinion is that line breeding tends to bring out these issues. You may have just bred geckos that were too closely related.
