I keep getting different things about this gal. She was sold to me as a Blazing blizzard, that has red eyes, but I keep being told she is a Diablo Blanco. She has red eyes and they are eclipse looking. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Diablo blanco. Tremper, blizzard and eclipse in one, just because she has a snake eye it doesn't not make her a DB if you follow, she still has the eclipse gene present so is a diablo blanco..

You may have to test breed to know for sure, Blizzards have their own Eclipse style eye trait that is unrelated to Tremper's Eclipse. Chances are if the breeder sold her as a BB that's what she is, no reason for a breeder to sell a DB at BB prices.

This is what I was thinking when I saw it in the classifieds.

From what I have read the Blizzards eclipse is not really a dom/rec trait, it just pops up here and there.
find another eclipse to breed her to, but that would take a while.
Maybe there is a chance the breeder had some hets and didnt feel like test breeding them.

+1, no breeder would do that on purpose. Unless they themself are not familiar with genetics. The best bet is to test breed it but label it as a BB for now.

Does it help any that her clutch mate was a BB with yellow eyes?
Also if i did test breed her to an eclipse what would I be looking for her to produce, 100%red eyed eclipse?

someone please correct me if im wrong, most of what I think I know comes from reading around .
but I think you have to have an eclipse albino to get the red eyes, otherwise you would get a solid black or partial (snake), so if you bred it to an albino eclipse you should get all eclipse red or snake, if she is a tremper eclipse, if there are any normals she may be a het for eclipse just expressing the random BB eclipse.

My moneys on that being a DB, because to me it looks like a solid red eclipse eye.
The eclipse (aka false eclipse) seen in blizzards doesnt seem to turn the eye red otherwise we would have had the red eyed BB a long time ago!

i say test breed her to an eclipse male. if she pops out eclipse babies, then she is a DB. if the babies have normal eyes, then she is a BB with blizzard eclipse eyes.

I originally grabbed her for a SS BB project. The intent was to create an all white gecko; the SS takes away the yellow and the BB prevents the SS spots. Will this still work if she turns out to be a DB? I’m not sure how the genetics on the DB’s work.

I say Diablo Blanco. I had DBs and BB and all BB with snake eyes or full eyes had black eyes and none had red eyes, that´s why I say Diablo Blanco but testbreeding would be wise, maybe with a Dreamsicle or Super Raptor male.

Take care

Well this is a bit unexpected with the whole DB thing. So if she is a DB and wanted to use her to make white geckos, (the red eyes and eclipse would be icing), what on earth should I breed her to?
I know what the outcomes for breeding are, but I have no idea what any of these look like.
SS x BD =
100% Mack Snow HET Tremper Albino, Blizzard, Eclipse

DB- enigma- eclipse X DB =
100% Enigma Tremper Albino Blizzard Eclipse

DB x BB- eclipse

Also would would these Dreamsicle or Super Raptor males produce.

are you sure they werent just bright blizzards because of incubation temps? a BB has pink eyes because of the albino gene. if the eye is eclipsed, it is red.

This isn't the case with the eclipse that randomly pops up in blizzards.

Well the whole point of the DB was to create an all white gecko with red eyes, but as we all know with BB's colouration it can be a bit hit and miss.
In my opinion you have the right idea, a SSBB is never going to be anything other than a pure white gecko with solid red eyes. So you can forget about the eclipse if you were to go down the SSBB.

So you have two roads. Get something else eclipse and albino like Mack RAPTOR, Nova, Super Nova, Dreamsicle etc.
Or go for the SSBB :main_thumbsup:

You mean my Dbs beeing bright BB? No I don´t think so, they have nice red eyes like you can see on Raptors. For the parents, they were Raptor het DB and Blanco and the Blancos aka BB het Raptor, one had snakes, one full and one a bit of both and these eyes were black nor rede or redish and I´ve never realy seen a BB that had snake eyes whcih weren´t Eclipse eyes and weren´t balck :)

EDIT: For sure The thing with the BB was not meant on Super Snow version of the BB

Last question on this. So s BB X SS and a DB X SS will pretty much give me the same results; a white gecko with red eyes. If I’m not breeding for the eclipse trait, I’m wondering if it would be better to just get a BB to continue this project.

Yeah SS x BB will give all Snows het BB
SS x DB will give All snows het BB and eclipse

I really would go for the SSBB, i personally think it is one of the nicest looking geckos in the world!

I agree and that’s what I wanted to do, I just kinda’ got a detour when I discovered my Blazing blizzard was a Diablo Blanco or could be one. Don’t get me wrong she has awesome genetics; I just think I would be putting that eclipse gene to waste with what I am trying to do.
Do you know if all SS X BB end up with red eyes or do the eye colors vary depending on which albino morph was used?
