MORPH HELP/OPINIONS

Hey Guys,

I recently got a gecko from someone who seems to be fairly reputable, from what I have been reading. However after receiving the animal, I had some questions for this person and I was informed that the gecko I received wasn't produced by him.

So the animal I ordered was sold to me as a (pure) enigma - no hets/no other genetics. However when I received the animal, it looked like an enigma, but the eyes were all black, looking like it was either an Eclipse or Blizzard also. All Enigmas I have seen have had a red tint to their eyes.

When I saw this (immediately after getting the animal), I email the guy who sold him to me, and he said he would be in touch with the breeder, the next day I got an email back saying the breeder assured him that there was no hets/other genetic traits in the animal.

What do you guys think?

Thanks.

My guess is that it is a super snow enigma (explains the black and white coloring, tiny speckles, stripe pattern, and solid eyes) and the breeder is not telling the truth (for whatever reason). I think the chance of that gecko being just an enigma is very low.

I think there is almost definitely something else going on there, but it's really hard to tell what exactly. I don't believe the breeder who says it is just an enigma.

Thanks for your reply,

I figured something else had to be going on, it was just tough for me to narrow it down, I figure it was either something to do with an eclipse, or maybe a super snow. I wasn't sure on the super snow, because I have seen ss enigma's in the past and they were a lot brighter than this guy, almost white. I will be test breeding him this year needless to say.

Thanks

It also could be a Mack Enigma, non super. It's hard to say from the picture, but it looks like there is a little bit of yellow on the body. Sometimes Mack Enigmas will have solid eyes, even when not supers.

Morph mistakes do happen, even with reputable breeders. A few years ago I bought a female breeder from a very reputable breeder who had gotten her from another reputable breeder. She was sold to me as a Raptor, but I soon realized that she had normal eyes. When the original breeder was questioned, he said that he had thought she had a bit of snake eye when she hatched. So now I had an Aptor het Raptor. Imagine my surprise when I bred her to my Mack snow and produced super snow eclipses! It turned out she was a Mack snow as well, but there was no way to tell. This year she produced a number of Mack Tremper super snows possibly het eclipse that have remained white with red eyes (and are still available!).
