morph naming

I was wondering if you took a line bred trait like color or spotting and drastically changed it would it be called a new morph?

This is a really touchy subject--when do you justify calling a line its own? I'd say if it reproduces itself in a predictable, stable manner, then you could call it something. Until it stabilizes and behaves similar to the traits we are already familiar with, you've just got some nice geckos.

And just for the record--ALL traits can be line/selective bred--even the simple recessives can be "tweaked" and manipulated to some degree. There are no breed standards in the leopard gecko world as of yet.

There are some hot threads here about naming morphs and some less arguementative ones in "general discussion". You'll get a good idea of everyone's opinions off those. I think in general it came down to if you really worked with a linebred for a few years to make it something that stood apart from the others, people started naming/referring to your leos by name, or if you actually hatched out a new gene. The same applied for morph combos-refining them etc.
