Moving with a leo in tow - advice needed

Hi all, I'm a newbie on this forum with a question I hope you all can help me with. I have a 14 yr old leo, and I'm moving from Mass. to NC on June 1.

What advice do folks have for keeping her safe and comfortable during travel? It's about a 13 hr drive (we'll be doing it over 2 days, stopping for the night in PA) and as you know it can be very hot in NC in June. That's potentially 13 hrs in a hot car.

I'm wondering first and foremost about what to put her in -- maybe a shoebox lined with a towel, with holes punched in the top for O2? In terms of the temp in the car, can I assume that if I'm comfy, then she will be too? She's never been one for heat, she really only seeks it out once in a while after she's eaten, so I'm most concerned about the potential for her to overheat.

Any advice appreciated, thank you!

A shoebox with a towel will be fine. If you've got the air on in the car, then don't even worry about her overheating, it just won't happen. If you've only got windows to cool you off, you might want to get a cold water bottle or something that you can put in with her. Wrap it in a towel or something so it's not REALLY cold. That should help her regulate her temps

make sure that you do not load her into the car until your ready to go and then don't leave her in the car if you have to turn it off and leave it for more then a few minutes. when I was little we were moving from FL to GA and my mom put my 2 pet mice into the car only 6 minutes before we were ready to leave and the doors were all open so there was a breeze, however FL is REALLY hot sometimes and both my mice ended up dyeing from heat stroke. since then I have moved from FL to WA, from WA back to FL with many animals from birds, dogs, ferrets, rats and fish with no problems at all. honestly your gecko will most likely be the least troubled out of all of you lol

Welcome to NC, where in town are you moving?

I travel with my gecko a couple times a year, I usually put her in a 3 galllon plastic cage with a dark hide and paper towels, and put cardboard on the side, and she sleeps most of the way. Usually if I stop , I just leave the windows down

Good advice, also be sure that the box is not in direct sunlight, like on the dashboard or even a seat in the heat of the day, even if the car is at a comfortable temp the box could still overheat. I usually keep animals on the floorboard behind my seat. If you are worried you could take a thermometer along to keep an eye on her temps.
