ive been reading through a few forums over the past few nights and have noticed the same thing popping up over and over... 'one male per setup' however i have 2 males in the same tank and have had for approx a year and have seen no aggresion from either... just wondering whether itd be a good idea to split them or whether it doesnt matter seen as there are no females?

cheers

I would not risk it. They maybe tolerating each other, now. But, I don't think you want to wake up to a blood bath.

:main_huh:I know, I know, I know....Maybe, they are the exception to the rule of "male gecko". Are you SURE that they are both males? Let's wait for some more feedback from other leo owners, and see.

I've been under the impression that young males get along. Its when they become sexually mature that problems may occur.

I can see how two males are raised together from hatchlings or even clutchmates can "get along" if kept together. but if you throw a female in there when sexually mature, that will probably take a 180 turn.

To be honest I had two males which were clutch mates housed together for 4 months until I could get a replace heat cable. They were housed since they were born. No fighting at all very calm males I recently just separated them into individual tubs they are around 40 grams each now. The way I see it though now they are separated they can never be housed together again because they will now mature and be more territorial with their own space.

No ones said it yet? Really? Laying on top of each other is a sign of dominance. Not "cuddling", reptiles dont cuddle. I havent and never will risk housing males together. Ive never heard of anyone housing 2 healthy males together. I always see a nice fat male and smaller thinner male. Just because the other male isnt bone thin doesnt mean that bigger dominate male isnt taking most food.

It is possible for 2 males to get along ESPECIALLY if they were raised together.
I have seen and heard of this happening, but as soon as a female gets smelled, it's all over. Adult males can kill each other. I don't think laying on each other is a sign of dominance like it is with other animals... they just go for the throat.

I was once out at Tremper's taking a tour of the place, he showed me a tub in which he had of four large, healthy, adult males living together...He had raised them that way since they were hatchlings...His theory, was that as long as the dynamic didn't change, they'd stay that way, but do something like throw a female in and it would be WWIII.

I would not risk it, not worth it. All it takes is one accident and boom! You got a dead gecko. It's impossible to monitor the geckos at all time.
