Take a look at one of my females Onyx.... She's VERY aggressive, and I don't know what's wrong with her eyes or what. When I feed them she will ALWAYS miss the first couple of times. Sometimes it'll take her bout 4 or 5 tries to finally catch the mealworm. But does she look different to you guys? Her eyes just seem bigger than the others.

Sorry for the bad pictures. I can't get her out of the tank. She likes to lunge at people. Well anything that moves. haha

I'll be getting her to the vets as soon as I can get her to be handled. I don't want to stress her out badly by not being handled first.

heres a picture when I first got onyx

They're beautiful! Onyx does look like she may have lost a little weight since the picture when you got her but it's hard to tell from the photo. The vet will be able to help you figure out what's going on though. Nakia and Boog look nice and chunky though. lol

I think most of the time that geckos just dont see very well. Of the 100+ breeders here I have some that just plain miss. But none the less they do end up getting it right. Not sure if it may be poor eye sight or maybe just the excitement of eating. I have some no matter how much you feed them they go nuts at feeding time. They love roaches. I think sometimes the chase just gets them excited.

Yeah Onyx has lost some weight since when I last got her. (almost a Year ago, July 1st! haha) I am feeding her Waxworms (only one after she eats her mealworms) to get more weight put back on her. I don't know what happend there. So I am REALLY anxious to get her to the vets, Boog already bit me so I'm not so freaked out anymore by getting bit. haha She has gotten bigger since that picture though. She just shed today.

I just don't want anything to happen to her, or anything. I do hand feed her. she's the only one that I hand feed. Just because I want to make sure she'll get them all.

And thank you for the compliments. I'm not done at all I still want to add some more. But I'm running out of room. haha

This is where they are at right now.... Before Boogie I had a Gecko I got from petco just because there was one already dead in teh tank and I wanted him to feel loved kind of deal so i bought him brought him home. a month later he died. so that's the tank you see there. I cleaned it out VERY well countless times before Boogie was put in there. New hides and EVERYTHING. haha and than the Hermit Crabs are right next to them in that little cage for now. They will be goign into a bigger one shortly.

OH! and I've added SO much more to both the 10 gallons. Just so you guys know they each have stuff to climb on and better hides. so much. haha

She looks like she's lost a little weight, the lunging could be due to her being hungry. I have to agree with Thomas, about them loving the "chase". Have you tried crickets??
Great pics and nice crabs! (the giant ones scare me)

Well Onyx does look like she's lost some weight but her eyes look O.K. to me and from what I can see it the pic, I'm not a vet or anything but seen many gecko's some just have bigger eyes then others. Also is her tail thin or thinner then when you got her? That shouldn't happen unless breeding. Can't really tell from your current pic of her now, but the pic of her in the deli cup, when you received her, she looked good. How old is she? and how long have you had her for? How much food would you say she's been eaten? She's not refusing food, just can't seem to catch it, am I right here? poop look healthy?
Well maybe this can help, b/c I've had gecko's do the same thing as far as missing the mealworms. Some worse then others. I have gecko's here that do the same thing then others that never miss. Some gecko's do get overall excited when feeding causing them to miss and some maybe just don't see quite as well as others too. I think in her case and I've experienced this myself, when they are very hungry they're so eager to eat, causing them miss. Also I've noticed this can happen when the gecko's adjusting to new food. B/C I also have 100 of my own breeder's plus hatchlings I get to work w/ daily. For an example I got my male mack snow enigma het Raptor a couple months ago and he was doing the same thing when we 1st got him, but over time is doing much better! I know that he was fed crickets before we got him so that might have had something to do w/ it. We feed our geckos' mealworms and he started eating right away alot too and has eaten daily since we got him, he just had trouble always catching the mealies. I noticed this right away so I helped him out. I take the tongs and as soon as I put the mealworm up to his mouth he'll eat it, and another... doesn't need to wait for it to move or anything, he's just glad I was making it easier on him, I think he knew he was having trouble & wanted to catch them easier & faster. After feeding him, I'd always leave mealworms in his dish so he can get used to it too, and he did. I think he was excited too maybe had something to do w/ it but he was used to catching crickets before, so I just think he had to adjust to catching the mealies. But now that we've had him about couple months he's doing so much better and eating all his worms from the dish on his own and I no longer have to help tong feed him. For most my dishes I use reg. plastic cups, (Kroger brand) and I cut them down to the right height for each gecko, (low as possible w/o the mealworms able to get out) this is very inexpensive and works great for all gecko's- Hatchlings to adults.
I also use condiment cup/dishes for adult geckos too b/c I feed them large mealworms and the cups have to be cut high for them not to get out & some of my geckos flip them over trying to eat, which sucks b/c I also have calcuim supplement in the dish w/ my worms too. I know they see better in the dark and very much so w/ albino's b/c they're light sensitive, so feeding in dark might help too. I'd try using tongs to help you gecko get the mealworm much easier. Can try to put the mealworms on the ground for her to catch and use the biggest worm for her, this will make it easier for her to catch the worm, the bigger the better! You can tell they get aggravated about missing. So if this keeps happening just try tong feeding and put the mealworm right up and touch his mouth w/ it, that might help. They get used to the tongs and everytime they see them know it's food. But since yours is hissing so much and looks a bit old to me to be still be acting this way makes me think your gecko is being so defensive b/c it's not getting any food, so it's basically starving. I've experienced this one time w/ a hatchling that didn't start eating when she should have been, and she was super defensive, b/c of this, sounds like yours, except she wasn't even going after food at all, I switched her dish and gave her a jar lid they're very low to ground and need tiny mealworms so they don't get right out, but this got her eating right away. Then she calmed down and was a much nicer gecko. I know hatchlings hiss but yours seems to be a bit older. I hope I helped, but your doing the right thing by not handling her, she doesn't need anymore stress that's not 100% necessary so if you think she needs to go to the vet then take her. But it will cause stress, so I'd try to get her to eat more 1st maybe esp. b/c she's trying too eat, not refusing food all together, b/c she looked great in the deli cup, so I also recommend asking who you get her from some questions and info and get as much background info on her as possible, what she was feeding on? How well/often she was eating for them? If they noticed anything wrong w/ her vision? Anything else that would help too ask. I don't think there's anything wrong w/ her eyes b/c she's going after the mealworms just missing them. Until she gets food in her she probably be defensive and scared, I just think she's very very hungry and wants food. She's housed alone right? It doesn't sound like she's sick or blind so I don't know hat the vet can do anything besides stress her more, Good Luck! Keep us updated on her, if you have any more questions or concerns, please ask.

Marcia slurry from goldengategeckos.com will help her if she continues not getting any food, this way she'll get some nutrients in her. But I think you can get her to eat. Maybe try crickets, just use as big mealies/crickets as she can get, use her head to judge. Also make sure all food is Gutloaded for 24-48hrs. before feeding to your geckos.

Yeah they don't care for the crickets.

I can only find 50 count Mealies. so I get bout 2 of those every week. And I feed them each bout 14, Along with waxworms. Before I feed them though I heat up the Mealies Under a heat lamp so that way they are moving fast and awake.

It's hard to find other food here where I live for them. So I'm going to start ordering food off the internet now.

My geckos are just about the most spoiled in my house hold. haha I say that cause my dog is deffenetly the most spoiled she's got a 14 kt gold collar haha so the runner ups are the geckos. haha

haha I made sure I got a BIG crab. his name is Mac Daddy, and the female is the smaller one and she doesn't have a name. I feel bad but I just can't think of one for her. haha

Oh she's still eating, Just takes her way longer to eat them than it does for the other two. She has lost weight and I don't know why. But those pictures are old also. so She's gain a lot of her weight back with me starting to feed them a couple waxworms here and there. I'll try to get pictures here in a few It's cleaning day and i'll be feeding them shortly also. I am gonna feed them more than I usally do because I will be leaving for my cabin this weekend. I do that also is that I hold the Mealies with the tongs in front of her face, she does seem to like that way better. I will have had her for a year on July 1st. I'm not sure how old she was when I got her as I got her from Petsmart.

Yeah she seems perfectly healthy otherwise. She just had a Shed today.

WoW, Sorry I had no idea my post was so long! Also when I was repling to Amanda's 1st post & the last person I saw on my screen that replied was Thomas Burnham aka Gecko Junkie, after I posted then I saw couple others and that Amanda posted again. So you answered a couple questions I asked, also I want to let everyone know i'm sorry if I repeated anything posted before me. Henry was on this page when I got home today and I just replied to what I saw b/c I've had simular experience and wanted to help. Now I know to always refresh 1st. Glad to hear she's gained some weight but if she's over a year old, and must be b/c you've had her about a year, you can feed her a couple waxworms then that if you want. But if she's eating don't know if vets necessary. If she's eating good for you now and gaining weight then what are you worries about?

Yeah I'm feeding her a couple Mealies here and there.

I'm just worried bout her eyesight if something is wrong with her eyes or what.

Or if it's just normal that some leos are Piggys. haha Nakia I knwo is a pig, but she doesn't get excited like Onyx does. And gets them all. Same with boogie.

Ordering feeders off the net is very good idea, I suggest BugCo.com and wormman.com there 2 places we'd ordered our feeders from- before breeding them ourselves, and you need to order large mealworms to start breeding that anyways, plus your geckos seem big enough to eat there large mealworms w/ no problems, they're not that big like super worm or anything. Mealworms have more fat then crickets so that's better I think for your geckos anyways plus much easier for us to deal w/ too. Your gutloading the mealworms good for 24-48hrs. before feeding to you geckos right?? This is so very important!! We use Chicken Feed which also works as their substrate too, and baby carrots on top for H2O source, we have the healthiest mealworms I've ever seen! wormman's are very good too but if you order through them do it over the net- NOT by phone, we've had our orders lost and couple that took about 2 weeks to get to us that way. So don't wait to our out before ordering. Also BugCo.com they always get your mealworms to you by the next day- Always. They're very dependable and professional, and I order by phone w/ them they're always have the answers to any questions your have and know exactly when they're shipping out, etc... I think wormman has the best prices too but they're shipping is included in prices so they do the cheaper shipping and they don't get there quick. Also they run out of worms before and just took our order like they had some- over phone didn't say anything. But I've still gone there in past b/c I really like they're worms, they move alot while in your gecko's dish- which is key to get them to eat. But ours are fatter and long, (instead of just long and thin) then I've seen nay mealies we've gotten anywhere, so I suggest breeding your own, it's too easy and you can control how many you have and wont have to kep buying them, which isn't cheap esp. when it's real hot out and they wont ship sometimes or you have to pay for next day air on feeders. But I'd rather do that then they all die on the way to you. Good Luck! If you want to breed your own I can tell you how, it's so simple!

You are very welcome! I have driven through and by Cottage Grove, but I cannot think of a specific reason I would have went there. I work in Eden Prarie, and go up in that area frequently. I did not know Stifler was from Cottage Grove, that was my fun fact for the day :)
