Im sorry for your loss, but you did all you could. It sucks seeing these animals at pet stores but the best thing to do is let them stay there. The stores loss will hopefully help other geckos in the future.
Check to see if the pet store will take back the dead gecko. I lost a Banded gecko after a week of having it and PetSmart let me return it.
