In this thread Snake Eyed and Eclipse is referring to the Blizzard eye trait only. Snake Eyed = half black, half normal and Eclipse = solid balck. This has nothing to do with RT's Eclipse/Raptor line.

Last year I bred a Mack Snow Pastel het Bell male to a Snake Eyed Blizzard female.

From that pairing I got:

- 1.0 Mack Snow het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 1.1 Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 1.0 Snake Eyed Mack Snow het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 1.1 Normal het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 1.1 Mack Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell

I kept these for ’07 breeders:

- 1.1 Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 1.0 Snake Eyed Mack Snow het Blizzard 50% het Bell
- 0.1 Mack Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell

This year I did the following pairings:

- Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell x Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell

So far from that pairing I’ve gotten:

- 0.0.2 Normal 66% het Blizzard
- 0.0.2 Mack Snow 66% het Blizzard (both hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)
- 0.0.1 Blizzard (hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)
- 0.0.1 SS 66% het Blizzard

- Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell x Snake Eyed Blizzard

So far from that pairing I’ve gotten:

- 0.0.1 Mack Snow het Blizzard (hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)
- 0.0.1 Blizzard (hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)
- 0.0.1 Mack Snow Blizzard (hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)

- Snake Eyed Mack Snow het Blizzard 50% het Bell x Mack Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell

From that pairing I got:

- 0.0.3 Normal 66% het Blizzard
- 0.0.1 Mack Snow Blizzard (hatched with Eclipse or solid black eyes)

Although all (excluding the Normals) of them hatched with solid eyes most have faded to Snake Eyes.

Thus far I have concluded:

- Normal eyed offspring from Snake Eyed or Eclipse parents will produce Snake Eyed* or Eclipse* offspring when paired with another normal eyed offspring from a similar lineage.
- Normal eyed offspring from Snake Eyed or Eclipse parents will produce Snake Eyed* or Eclipse* offspring when paired with a Snake Eyed or Eclipse partner.
- Normal siblings from these pairings appear not to be able to express this trait.**
- Snake Eyed or Eclipse offspring can be made from pairing a Snake Eyed or Eclipse to a Mack Snow without the trait.***

* This is referring to Mack Snows or Blizzards only.
** There is likely some kind of trait linkage between the Blizzard eye trait and the Mack Snow eye trait (SS eyes…).
*** This is in reference to the Snake Eyed Mack Sow I produced last year and also helps support the above theory.

I am waiting on eggs from:

- Snake Eyed Mack Snow het Blizzard 50% het Bell x Eclipse Blizzard 66% het Bell
- Mack Snow Pastel het Blizzard 50% het Bell x Banana Blizzard (possibly the real deal)

I’m thinking the latter pairing might show some unique results. As in a new eye mutation! It’s just a hunch and is being speculated by me because of RT’s Xanthic morph (i.e. Raptor eye trait x Blizzard eye trait = Xanthic?). We’ll just have to wait and see! I will add my results and any further information I come up with when I start getting hatchlings from them.

very interesting and you may be on to something but i think the mack snow trait is causing the eye occurrence to be so prevalent. to get better idea breed snow to snow het for nothing and blizzard x blizzard het nothing. that way you have a control group to compare it too.

That's also what I think, but didn't really make it that clear... That is pretty much why I posted this! ;)

I never thought about that before, but it makes so much sense. I disregarded it because of all the people doing Raptor X "snake eyed" blizzards. But I never though about the result of a 4X homozygous morph: RT-eclipse, blizzard, bliz-"eclipse" and albino... So Xanthics could just be albino, blizzard, two different "eclipse", with the raptOR (orange) color bleeding through the blizzard trait as yellow.

Please do keep us updated. This will be a very intresting thread.

Very interesting stuff :main_yes: .Would explain maybe why they have been no NORMAL offsping with snake eye'ect from this type of breeding ?.As they are non snow they are not carring the gene for black eye that mack super snow have.So the blizzard black eye gene seems to be connecting with the mack super snow black eye gene that mack snow are carring. And releasing it with out the full mack super snow body pattern.

Exactly! It's pretty cool too! It's totally possible to have solid red eyed Mack Snow Albinos!

EDIT: The biggest question I have now: Can Mack Snows reproduce the eye trait when outcrossed???

That is a question ? :D .What i think i will try next year is (mack super snow X black eyed blizzard = 100% mack snow het blizzard).wonder how meny would be black eye ?.Or if i can find i'll try to get my hands on a red eyed blazing blizzard and a mack super snow het albino.

Any project involving blazing blizzards and super snows is a good project :main_thumbsup:
