My boy dumped mealworms in his room. He had to get them from the fridge. Im assuming he was trying to feed his leo. I find this out cause my wife found Mealworm Beatles everywhere in my kids room (under the bed, in the closet, and behind the dresser). I looked online and these things can lay up to 500 eggs in less than one month! Then it will take a week or two for them to hatch.

So we vacuumed the entire room.

Think that will be enough?

Has this happened to anyone else?

i do not think you will have any problem what so ever. i can not tell you how many escapee beetles we have had over the years and never one problem with them reproducing. we would find dead beetles but never worms or anything. if you still feel paranoid about it, move your leo from the room the beetles were in and spray the carpet with rid brand or equivalent aerosol (you know the head lice spray). make sure the room is aired out before your son sleeps in it and before you put the leo back in the room

Lost mealworms arn't really a big problem. They'll eventually die off. Even if the beetles survive and lay eggs it's not like they eat anything. They have really poor survivorship outside of a grain /food based enviroment from what I can tell and I've kicked over mealworm containers several times.

You shouldn't worry about them, they will eventually die off like everyone said.

If your bored and looking for something to do you can do the whole beetle trap thing.

outdoor method to get rid of crawlies.
container with ramps up to lip/holes in side high enough for beetles to not get out.
throw in some sliced veggie/fruit as bait.

In the outside world you'd just dig a hole and but a coffee can with holes cut in it into the ground. bait it up put on the lid and wait. works for slugs, crickets and anything else that will fit in the holes.
