I bought the cricket keeper. Half my crickets died. They did better in the coffee can. :(

I gave them oats and cricket quencher in the little feeders.

What did I do wrong?

It's hard to tell. Here are some possibilities: crickets too small and didn't survive, crickets too crowded, temperatures too low, crickets not in good shape from source.

Good luck next time.

Cricket quencher with added calcium can kill crickets. Acpart got the other possibilities. *cough* switch to roaches *cough*

Lol Bennayboi, with how many times you plug roaches, people would think YOU are eating them! :p

Libby, sometimes the little crickets cannot make it up into the little feeder dishes that come with the Kricket Keepers. I ended up just putting the food I had for them in a pile in the corner, and the lettuce (moisture) in another corner.

My kricket keeper didn't have a feeder dish like I said in another post I just put half of a red potato and egg crate in there and I have no problem but I only buy them a week in advance at the most. Its easier cause I work at the store where I get them from so I just pick them up while im there, i only have three or four dead ones out of 3 dozen.

They made it up that tube to hide, but I did suspect they couldn't get the oats. I saw them in the quencher. I'll try again.

The quencher didn't kill them in the coffee can before.

I'll get some more tomorrow.

yeah try to move the oats, its good if they got up the tube though than you can just take it out and put them into the cage with out touching them which is what I dont like LOL

Cricket Keeper

How Big is the Cricket Keeper.

How many Crickets did you put into it.

How warm was the place where you kept the Crickets.

Was there any direct sunlight.

When your crickets died ... how moist was it in your keeper. i.e. were the crickets wet.

Oh no! that's what I HATE about crix, they die off for no apparent
reason :main_angry:
I just cleaned my cricket tub yesterday because I saw a bunch
of dead ones in there.
I decided to order another 1000 from NY Worms because if I wait,
they will not be shipping in the cold weather.
They have a cut-off date for ordering (cant remember, Dec 20?),
so if you think you will need crix from them, keep that in mind.

I seem to be having good luck with crickets, out of the 300 I bought last week, I've only found about 10 dead..I keep a wet sponge on top of a really shallow plastic lid, that way the sponge doesn't make anything moldy. I divided the crickets into 2 critter keepers, lots of egg crates to hide, and just put veggies down.

Cricket Keeper

How big is your Keeper?

Or did you put 300 crickets into a larger set up.

It's the small keeper. I bought 60 the other day. I thought it would be okay since he eats about 10 small ones a day. So far this morning I didn't have a die out like I did. I put a little quencher on the floor of it next to a full dish and I didn't use the dish for the oats this time.
