Here are some pics for the start of my tank. Obviously have a ways to go, but I only have so much free time.

I forgot to change my camera settings on the last few, so kinda blurry, but you still get the idea ;P

The tank needs to still be cleaned out, as it was a 55 gallon fresh water for a while, but sprung a leak, so gave me an excuse to tear it down for a reptile tank. Not sure yet what I want. Been pondering on snakes for a bit in this one.

I tried to get a closer view of the rock background in this one.

These are just some home made rocks, made out of old styrofoam ice chests.

Here are some updated photos. I have to build the stand, tops, and hood yet, as well as hook up a misting system and heating system. It is a mixture of silk and live plants. The dragon grass, weird little leafy thing that looks like frog lilies, and the big zebra plant are real, the rest is silk.

Enjoy

Meh, I still have no idea. I was originally thinking a snake, but then I saw a great documentary on Asian interior design, and decided to go with a planted Asian inspired setup. I still have a rock waterfall to add in (on the left side), and some bamboo. The hood will have bamboo inspiration as well. So Now I am pondering some various Asian gecko species maybe. But still.... no idea.

Chinese water dragon maybe? I don't what size tank requirements they have though. I think a 55 gal would house one. But again not positive.

If it were me personally, I'd put Asian Forest Scorpions (or basically any Heterometrus species) in there. Then again, I'm a bug guy! :D

They LOVE high humidity (around 80%), and you could place one for every 5 gallons of tank space. If you went with this though, I would suggest some hides (drift wood or cork bark would be good choices). And also make sure to check that the plants you chose are safe for them. Good Luck, and Nice Work on the tank. :main_thumbsup:

A 55 gallon is to small for a water dragon, they require alot of room. You can never go wrong with scorpions :D.

The set-up looks great :), you could get a couple of tokay geckos :D

Hmmm if you could find some... Crocodile skinks would be really cool too. Check them out I think you will like them. Look exactly like little alligators apart from the head and even have keeled back and tail scales. Supposedly amiable and not large (I think like 8 inches) and I think they like water too. Been a while since I looked into them, but they are definitely worth considering.

Yeah, I had a few croc skinks about 2 years ago. Pretty cool little guys. I had a tank setup with a little pump that created a river, and used a bunch of bog plants. Worked great but eventually started to stink, because insects got behind some rock backdrops and rotted. Got nasty.

I am pretty sure I am going to go with some geckos, I have been pondering a lot on a couple tokays. I also like a lot of the day geckos too. But I have another large tank that I will be doing after this, that I might save for the geckos.

Just too many possibilities! I am headed to the Hamburg PA show later this month though, so will have to see what I end up coming home with ;)

The tank looks great. I like the idea of getting some tribs [red eyed armored skinks]. The great thing about those guys is that they can be housed with rhacodactylus geckos. I would do a whole naturalistic mixed-species viv. Like with some cresteds, a chahoua, tribs, a pink tongue skink, some giant african black millipedes.... I would just be mindful of doing all-female geckos so you dont have to worry about digging the cage up for eggs.

The only thing i would add would be a bunch of branches, so geckos would be able to make more use of the vertical space. The geckos i listed, and pink tongue skinks, are arboreal, and even the millipede will use every inch of the cage [vertical space included] I dont know much about tribs, but I know Brian does, I think his sn on here is Gecko? He keeps his trib hatchlings with crested geckos, and they do well.

Here is an update on the tank. I built the hood, which has lighting built in (both day and night lights). It also has an automatic misting system set with a timer. I have been playing around with it to get an idea on how the humidity lasts. Both ends are screened for good air flow, and it also has a small processor fan for circulating air if needed. I'll get some picks of the internal stuff next time. Here is the tank so far though.

Right now I am working on the stand, which is going to have a desert vivarium on the lower half for a beardie. The hood and stand will be painted black once they are done.

I put my female crestie in there and took few picks of her, she is down in the bottom right corner. You can see her picks in the crested forums though.
