canon 100 macro... focus at 5.9 feet and on that camera is actually 1.6x life size

canon 50f1.8 .... focus at 1.5 feet and is roughly .3x life size or fucuses down to 3x a postal stamp size area. It will indeed take nice closeups stopped down to f4-f8 on a avarage sized gecko for instance.

your camera is 12 MP and cropping to life size can still give images printable to well beyond a 8x10 image with proper post editing.

Oh BTW, I'm a mod at a photo site :) Feel free to PM me if you need further info

OK, now back to our previously scheduled program.. hahaha

50f1.8 is the kit lens right? The one you get if you buy the "normal" DSRL from Canon(not 1Ds or so^^).

And for the rest Paul already answered everything^^ I´m not a prof. in this I just steal my deadss equiepment^^

Thanks for all the info Paul. I really want a lens that I can get right up to the subject with. Like for example, if the rim around the edge of the lens is touching whatever I'm photographing, I still want it to be able to focus. We're talking less than an inch. Is this possible?

LoL I'm going to have to give you a shout sometime Paul. I've got a Nikon D40x for Christmas last year and although I've got some amazing pictures with it I still don't know the half of what the camera is capable of I'm sure.
