We just got home - to our actual home that is- and will post pics tomorow when I pull them out.

A couple of questions-

we also have four rats, both for feeders for the snakes and because we're starting to market organic 'free range' rodents for our area . . . basically the rats are going to have their own rodent proof room in our shed outside, its heated/ac'd in the summer and has great ventilation. Anyway right now they are living in the office, because one female just had a litter of pups and I like to watch them grow up... will I have a hard time handling the snakes ( also living in the office) with the rats in the room?

The snakes are living in one of those snake condos for right now as well. It has a bulb for heat in it ( till I dig out a heat pad after i actually get to sleep for the first time in fourdays)... I used pine shavings per a friend of mine who breeds Red - Tail boas... they also have a few climbing branches in there, a cave/hut thing with a few holes in it as well and a dog dish with water in it for soaking ( positioned just to the right of the 'sun spot' that the light creates- IDK if they would like the water heated by the bulb or not. When we were making our way home i used the bulb for heat. now its just for viewing as the snakes are in the herp room/office that stays about 79 degrees constantly.

am i doing ok for not having a clue?

Pine is BAD!!! I'm hoping since your friend is a breeder that it's actually aspen shavings that you have. If it isn't you need to change the substrate right away. Pine is toxic and will make them very sick.

I also wouldn't keep the rats in the same room. I've been tagged twice by my ball by taking a frozen rat out of the freezer with tongs to defrost and then going into the other room and opening his tank without washing my hands. Without even touching the rat I smelled ratty enough to be mistaken for food.
