My first Gargoyle!

Hello, I was just very excited about finally getting this guy and had to share :)
I have been eyeing him at a Petco for a very long time, since he was much smaller, and he just never sold, I do not know why. So anyways, I just broke down yesterday and bought him. I usually do not buy reptiles from chain pet stores, but I dunno, I couldn't resist this guy. Sorry these pics aren't the greatest, my camera has issues and my ipod touch doesn't take the greatest of pictures. His color is much deeper than it actually looks. When he's all fired up, he is the most perfect color of rusty orange, and is my favorite color, so it was meant to be! Especially since I only got him for $45...he had a bit of a curled up lip on the side of his mouth, they told me if he has health problems, they'd buy him back from me, take him to a vet and treat him and then I could purchase him back from them for what I paid, so I wasn't terribly worried and when I asked if they'd discount him, they did! So I am pretty happy :D
He shed last night and his curled lip is pretty much gone today...maybe it wasn't humid enough for him? The enclosure looked pretty dry...and I don't actually recall seeing a water dish laid out for him.
Just wondering how you all think he looks? I am no expert by any means and I have done quite a bit of research, but it is always nice to hear from people more well learned than I in this matter. He is pretty tubby, and seems to really enjoy his CGD a lot, at least for the day I have had him. Poor guy has a scar over his right nostril, they'd housed him with other gargoyles in the past, so I assume it is from a fight.
And I apologize for the pic with the tank...It was originally a fish tank, and I thought I could get off the algea specks, but it does not want come off! The snails and pleco clearly were not doing the job for me :main_no:
Anyways here are the pics of my Gavin!

Oh! Quick question! I have been trying to read up, but wasn't quite sure, so with the Repashy CGD, do I need to add calcium to that? I know it is in there, but I don't want to over-medicate but nor do I want to deprive him of any calcium either. And insects, do Gargoyles need insects or can they live perfectly happy and healthy on just a CGD? WHenever I try to find caresheets, it's always like, "Look at Crested gecko caresheets for gargoyle care" But then sometimes they'll have something talking about trying to get gargoyles to eat insects...do they need insects? To me it seems like if you have to almost force them to eat insects, then they don't truly need them? Or is there something in the CGD that they're missing that needs to be made up by the feeding of insects?
Okay sorry for the long epistle. Thanks in advance for any help!

Gargs can live long happy lives on CGD alone. No additional calcium needed for a regular healthy animal. No bugs needed either. Two things that attract some people to them.

That is good to know! Yes, that is very attractive about these geckos... Easy to feed, easy to house and very neat looking and for the most part, easy to handle. What is there not to like about them?

Ugh it was torture! At the time, I was debating getting leopard geckos or cresteds or gargoyles. I decided on leos and that was back in october. They had him way back then even! It wasn't easy, believe me :p

Beautiful garg! Look in pretty good shape, the scar may reduce some with future sheds, but may never go away completely. Are you sure it is a he and not a she; could be the camera angle, but I really don't see a bulge in the first 2 photos.

Repashy CGD is the best thing to offer since it is completely balanced with everything they need; hard part is choosing from all the different flavors. We have all the flavors, so we rotate the flavors so they can get a variety. Since gargs are very picky eaters, some prefer certain flavors and will chow down like little pigs when we offer their favorite. A few of our gargs love crickets, a couple will eat them every once in a while and some show absolutely no interest in crickets what so ever. If yours doesn't like insects, then you get to save money by not having to buy extra crickets.

I don't know a lot about Gargoyle sexing, so it may very well be a girl, it has a small bulge, maybe because he is young? I know I have seen...bulgier boys for sure, and this pic probably hinders rather than helps...I need to get my camera fixed. Actually, I can take a more clear one in the next day or so, getting a phone with an 8 mp camera. But I'll include this picture anyways. Don't mind the poodle, he is vain and trying to get in on the picture taking. :p

I'd be inclined to say female as well, the gecko is definately big enough to sex. Good looking garg, nice color to him. If you can post a side shot(profile) of the vent area showing the extent of the bulge you see we can tell you for sure, but I'd bet on female.

I agree with Tara and Ted, I'm thinking girl. What a pretty gargoyle. I love the coloration, and the color of her eyes. A ginger with blue eyes... grrrrr. LOL!

Okay! I got some better pictures now, with a much better camera, he/she looks even prettier in these pictures, although he/she wasn't quite fired up like in the other ones. Oh well.
Anyways, let me know what you guys think. :)

Haha, my dog came over and started to stare at the gecko, who turned towards him and started getting in to the jump position, when my dog got nose to nose, he also got a flying gecko in his face! I would have loved to have gotten a picture of the gecko in the face, but Bartimaeus didn't look like he really appreciated having a gecko there :p

Too funny with the dog :) Awesome colors for sure! That's a good sized bulge.. could be a male. Let's see what others think. I have one that was supposed to be definitely a female, turned out to be a male.
