Hello everyone!

Just got around to posting about my new cresty! Its my first reptile of any kind so Im kinda a newbie when it comes to this. I picked him up at a local petco, unfortunitely I wasnt aware of staying away from them until afterwards, but my son fell in love. He named him/her bootsy. I have him temporarily in a 10 gallon aquarium until I can get a nicer terrarium like the exo terra. When I first got him two weeks ago he was shedding. He still has shed left on his body that seems to slowy be peeling away. He was 4.12 grams and poops ever two days. I have hand fed him by touching the tip of his mouth with cgd but i assume he must be finding his food since hes going to the bathroom. I also covered most of the top of the aquarium with plastic wrap to help keep the moisture in. Any clue as to what morph he might be?

To get the shed off give him a sauna, a deli cup with a luke warm damp paper towel....drippy wet is fine also. Let him chill in there for about 5-10 minutes a day until his shed comes off. How often are you spraying his cage? Usually they only take one day to shed.

At his size a 10 gallon is perfectly fine, anything larger can cause it to stress out. So if you find a cheap exo by all means snag it up, but I would keep it in the 10 gallon until it is around 20g, then upgrade it into its final home.

He is an orange flame, however you would normally just call him a flame. Orange flame implies you have an orange based gecko, usually you tag the color with the base color, so like a red flame would have a red base. Essentially you have what is called a standard flame. What standard means is that it doesnt fall into the blonde or the halloween group. A blonde would be a dark base with a cream dorsal, halloween dark base with orange dorsal. Your gecko could in time become a halloween flame if the base goes dark enough.

Good info! Thanks. I've done the sauna twice. But I'm afraid of stressing him out. Should I just do it until it falls off? I spray once in the morning and at night. The humidity drops to the 60s during day with temp around 72.

Try using a wet q-tip after he has been in the sauna for a few to help peel it back, it may take a few times to get it all off. It is normal for the humidity to tail off, really you want to shoot fo around 80% after you mist, then by the time you are ready to mist again it is usually around 50 or so %, so you seem to have that fine, he just has a stubborn shed.

Ok so I gave him a bath and tried the qtip trick. I didn't get much off because he was freaking out and wanted nothing to do with me. Didn't seem to like me touching him with the qtip.

Well of course who wants a wet qtip on them? lol they don't like it but some take to it better than others. I have one that seems to actually enjoy heavy petting so she seems to enjoy qtips, but that is rare.

Well I'm happy to report that bootsy had a full shed last night so all is well.
