My first season

This is my first time breeding leos. I've been breeding beardies and corns for a while though... I think both of my females are gravid. I know one is for sure and pretty sure about the other one. They are both real moody and won't let me touch them at all. They are both really active, but neither have really eaten for like 2 months. I mean they eat a little here and there, but not like I think they should be eating. How will I know when she's ready to lay the eggs?

I have a hovabator incubator on the way and have 3 different nesting spots for them. Should I take the male out to make the girls more comfortable? Or will they lay just fine with him in there? Thanks for any advice.

I leave my males in with the females full-time from Jan. through Oct. and I have no problems. Other people put the male in periodically with the female for mating. The only thing to watch out for is whether the male is hogging the laying area (which shouldn't be a problem if you have several choices). Most of my geckos seem to want to hang out in the lay box with the hot weather.
I can usually tell if my females are getting ready to lay because they don't eat, seem restless and are in and out of the lay box. Sometimes I do get a surprise though. I think that as this progresses you'll get to know the female's responses and you'll be able to tell a little more easily.
Good luck. This can be really fun!

Thank you, Aliza! She has been in and out of the nesting spot a lot and hasn't hardly eaten for a while... but I wasn't sure if she was ready or what because we just got her like 2 or 3 months ago. It'd be nice if they gave strong signals like the dragons do, digging at the corners of the cage. ;)

I have her, him, and another female living together and would like to keep it that way. They seem to get along well. What do you do with your leos Oct - Jan? You just let them fatten up? I didn't think they needed to be brumated.

The female is an albino tremper and the male is a hypo tangerine jungle albino tremper 33% ph RAPTOR. So I should get just albinos? What if he IS het RAPTOR, would that change my outcome? My other female is a tangerine 100% het tremper albino... so that should get me: albinos, het albinos, and they may or may not be tangerine? Would they be ph hypo?

Thanks for any info/advice!

When my female gets ready to lay she hangs out in the nest box a lot and digs around in there. she usually does this a few day before she lays. but she never gets mean or anything before she lays and she always eats a lot. but thats just the way leos are they all have diff. personalities.:main_cool3:

I separate the males and the females for a few months to give the males some down time so maybe they'll be more interested at the start of the new season (I find that by midsummer they seem to have lost interest in the females). Also I change the pairings every season and I don't want anyone getting a head start with the "wrong" mate. I don't brumate.

It sounds as if you'll get the whole range from normal looking het albino to "regular" albino, tang, hypo and maybe some raptor looking ones (I haven't really been paying attention to the raptor genetics so I'm not sure). I also breed Tremper albinos and het albinos. I haven't gotten an albino from the hets yet, but I've gotten some very pretty geckos.
