The first problem is that it may be too hot for the little guy.

90 degrees may be too hot for him, especially if the temp. may get hotter, since it is summer. Try to get the temp in the 80s. He may be too hot. Also is he new? It may be a pet store problem, or if he is new, he may have to settle in first and get used to his new home.

If he still does not eat, and start losing weight, take him to a vet.

You can:

1. Take the heat mat off completely. Usually, geckos don't need both a heat lamp and mat. As long as the cage is hot enough, it is fine. The heat from above will still set the cage temperature and warm his body eventually.

2. If the room you have him in is hot, if you have another room that is cooler, put him in that room.

3. Buy a temperature control thing. They range (well in my city) from 25-50 bucks. You set a max temp, and when the heat in the cage gets over that temp, the thing shuts off the heat lamp.

First thing is how and where are you checking the temps? The temps need to be checked at the floor of the tank either by using a digital thermomater with a probe that lays on bottom or by using a infrared thermomater. Also his moist hide really should be on the warm end to help it get some humidity to shed. What are you trying to feed it Mealies, crix, supers? Try changing it a little. I had one that took about 2 weeks to start eating and I finally had to rub a mealie on his nose to get it to eat.Hope this helps

Perhaps try a variety/something else? There are atleast 10 feeders available in just about every reptile store... And many more exclusive ones only found online which i bet most people on these forums havent even heard of, its worth a try...;)

Hi Rich and Welcome to GeckoForums!
We could use a bit more info to try and help with your new gecko

What size /how old is he?

What size tank is he in?

Temp of 90 measured with what type of thermometer and where in the tank did you measure it?

You should not turn off the uth and keep the overhead light on
Get rid of the overhead light

Leos are nocturnal lizards and need belly heat to properly digest their food
They are not sun basking lizards that use overhead heat

You can move the log off of the uth so that he can lay directly over the spot on the floor of the tank where the uth is located

That is were you should be measuring your temp with a digital thermometer with a probe on the end of it

Lay the probe flat on the top of the paper towels and it will read the temp in that spot

Do the same on the cool end of the tank-the uth should be on one end of the tank and the cool side will be at the other end

If the temp from the uth is above 90 degrees-get a thermostat-either a dimmer switch type or a reptile thermometer from a pet store that is an on/off one
Plug your uth into the thermometer and adjust the temps
You will probably have to play with it for a few days to get it right

Usually 88 to 90 is good-measured on the floor right on the top of the area where the uth is

If your Leo is in a 10 gal. tank with both the spot bulb and the uth-chances are that it is way too hot all over the entire tank as a 10 gal does not leave much room for a decent temp gradient
Overall air temps in the tank/enclosure that are too hot will kill any reptile quickly

While very often a Leo that has just been moved into a new home will not eat for a few days or more-the temps need to be correct to ensure that he will want to start eating once he settles in

I hope that this has helped
