I placed my hand inside the cage, very still and my gecko comes over real slow, then bites my finger. :D (My first Gecko bite). Well, first time she got that close. I have not had my baby gecko that long, like about 5 days, so she is getting used to me. I just thought I would share this info and no the bite did not hurt.

That is so funny. I remember when my gecko first came to my hand, I was sweating. Once, mine also bit me while doing this, and it learned not to bite me again. Every time one of my reptiles bite me, my natural reaction is to go in shock, and i don't know what it may hit. That's why all of my reptiles and sugar gliders are so tamed and won't bite for nothing. (Poor things) You are brave compared to me. I need to learn how to control me shock.

Once bitten

Well just know the bite is coming. I already knew by the way my Gecko was stalking my hand it was going to happen, so I didn't pull back in shock. I normally do. If you think to yourself I'm going to get bit, then you are prepared for it. :D

I think that and I would know it, but it still happens.

So I found another way, since leos are so curious and smart. If they see you holding another leo or reptile, they will see that leo is not dying, so it will give your hand a shot, then if it turns out good, it will come back to it.

Yea my Leo is very smart. She knows not to bite hard and she normally just hisses. She is a baby Leo and searches for her food, until its all gone and is a month old. When I place a cricket bigger than my gecko's head, she ate the head and left the body of the cricket, she could have eat the whole thing. She, or he is smart that is why. I took the cricket out though, its gone.

That is a very smart gecko. I can see her eating a half of a waxworm or something someday.

She would be almost full, and want one more morsel, so she'll take a bite of that waxworm. They have human attributes. That's why I love them so much.

What type is she and how old?

Mine is just a pig. It eats and eats and eats, then the next day, his belly is extremely fat.

One of my leos won't bite me either. Once she was fighting, and I touched her, and she was about to bite, but when she saw it was my finger, at the last moment, the bite turned into a lick.

She is a Leopard Gecko. A month old. The lady at the pet store would not say what morph and on the cage where I bought my Gecko it says: Leopard Gecko CB. My gecko is orange with some stripes. Yea my gecko is a pig to. :main_laugh: I just give my gecko 4 crickets a day but no more. I am sure my baby Gecko would eat more than that but I don't want to have a weight problem. Oh I forgot to ask do adult Gecko's stop sheding at a certain age, or do they shed for their whole life? I wanna know. :D

Leos are very inquisitive and some respond well to interacting with their keepers and some never really get comfortable with being handled

You can not train a Leo-they will respond more to you the less afraid that they are of you

As for feeding 4 crickets per day-that is not enough food for a month old baby
The crickets should not be larger than the babies head
You need to be feeding smaller crickets
1/4 inches are good for small babies

You should be worrying about your gecko growing and putting fat reserves into its tail at this point-not how fat that it might get

If you can get meal worms-leave a bowl of 10 to 20 (dusted with calcium)in the tank overnight for your Leo to eat in addition to the 4 crickets that you are feeding it
Wax Worms are OK for treats but should not be fed as a staple food

Their shed rate depends upon on fast or how slow that they are growing

An underfed baby or juvie Leo will shed much less often than one that is fed as much as it wants to eat per night
Babies can shed every two weeks when they are having a growth spurt

Leos also shed when they lose weight

Depending upon where you live and if you can order bugs over the Internet-there are also locusts-roaches- and other types of worms that can be fed to Leos
They all should be on the small side in size for young babies

Once they hit 25 grams you can safely increase the size of the worms but I still feed smaller crickets to even my adult Leos

hope this helps

Baby Gecko

The lady at the pet store where I bought my baby gecko, said that 2 crickets is enough for a baby gecko. I also read online 4-6 crickets is enough for a baby gecko, then adults 4-6 crickets every other day, so that is what I went by. I do not have any kind of worms. I guess I'll feed my baby gecko 6 crickets instead of 4. I hope that is enough.

Feeding

Also my boyfriend fish died because he followed the advice on line to feed your fish what they can eat in 15- minutes. The fish died of swim bladder disease from over feeding. He knows better now and does not follow that advice. See same thing with a Gecko. Over feeding can cause death. Even if the gecko eat to it's full, it's too much food, that is what my boyfriend says.
Anyway the fish my boyfriend got from the pet store is doing fine and he does not over feed it, like they say online. I'm thinking the same thing for my Gecko. I don't want it dead from too much food. I mean the lady at pet store has a gecko, where I bought my Gecko from and she said 2 crickets is enough, without meal worms, is fine. So I think 4 or 5 crickets is plenty. If my gecko had it's way he or she would eat 50 crickets in 10 minutes. That's too much.

It's your gecko-feed it the way that you think that you know best

Good luck with it
