My geckos stopped eating anything!

Hi,

As you know I have two females of leopard geckos in the same terrarium. I used to keep them on coconut fibre, but they weren't eating just a little bit. Next I change their substratum to sand. When I have done it, they started eating sand. They stopped eating anything (but they looked very well). The conditions of course was the same. I had again change the substratum to coconut fibre, but they still don't eat.
Can you help me with this problem?

Regards.

The best substrates you can use are those that con not be ingested. Sand (or anything loose a granular) can easily cause compaction which can lead to death. I would encourage you to use tile or paper. Also try putting two separate feeding dishes in case they are bullying each other. So first, change to tile or paper and then re-check all of your cage temperatures to make sure they are about 92F on the warm side surface and 72 on the cool side.

Unfortunately I can't keep them on tile or paper, cause their terrarium perform decoration of house.
I check temperature and in warm side they have almost 104F and 77F in cool side (at night something about 72F)

so by no means am i an expert... am still only learning to be a efficiant "mother" to my little girl. but, are you saying that you cannot change the substrate to tile or paper because it doesn't go with the way your house is decorated? :main_huh:

if this is the case shouldn't the well being of your geckos be the most important thing. and i am sure you could find tile, or some other sutable substrate that would be similar in color for decoration purposes

Amber, you don't understand me. Terrarium with cocount fimbre looked completly otherwise than terrarium with tile or paper, but this is mine, personal opinion.

Early, when I keep them on cocount fimbre they where doing well. Then weren't any problems. Something was happend when I change the substrate to sand. And I don't know what...
