My Hatchlings 2016

This is the thread where I will show off all of my hatchlings this season. =)

Hatchling #1:
Normal het rainwater albino and eclipse
Pairing: Typhoon x Tangerine het Eclipse

I'm finding this pairing interesting. Both parents are super hypo and the female is a pretty decent tangerine, yet this is the second banded, completely normal, not tangerine hatchling I've hatched out from this pairing. The male comes from tangerine lines but is washed out from the eclipse, so maybe it comes from him.

Still waiting on the clutchmate. Hoping for an eclipse this time!

I wouldn't be surprised if this hatchling gets more orange as it matures.

I'll be interested to see how she grows up! The other banded one that hatched last year stayed yellow, but she is also an eclipse even though she hatched with very dark bands, so that might explain why. Since this one is not eclipse, maybe she will get more tangerine. The other non-eclipse that hatched last year was very orange from the start (pictured in my avatar).

So we will see how it goes. I'm excited to see her clutchmate. =)

Hatchling #2:
Tangerine Eclipse het Rainwater Albino
I like the pattern on this one. Not irregular enough to be called a jungle, though. =P I also think it's interesting that this one is already more tangerine than the other. Last season, the most orange hatchling was non-eclipse while the two eclipses were pretty yellow.

I was planning on keeping the clutchmates together for a while, but the newer one is a gram lighter and the older one immediately tried to bite her, so I'm keeping them apart.

It's funny the way genetics work. I would assume that there are certain "tangerine" vs. "normal" alleles in the parents, and the babies can inherit different combinations of them (so one might inherit more normal ones, while the next might get more tangerine ones). Eventually, through line breeding the best tangerines, you'd get to the point where the parents are saturated with tangerine and have very few normal alleles left.

Hatchling #3:
Tangerine(probably going to be hypo or super hypo due to the lighter colored pattern) het eclipse and rainwater albino

I think the clutchmate might be dead. It's been nearly 72 hours since this one hatched. But we will see, maybe I'll get lucky!

Also not the best picture, but this one is a wild-child. Couldn't get her to sit still and didn't want to stress her out.

Does this one's tail seem a bit short? It looks kind of stubby to me. Is that a birth defect?

#3 definitely looks tangerine to me. As for the tail, maybe a little short? Not sure whether it's bad enough to be a defect or if there's just some natural variation in tail lengths...

Looks like the clutchmate wasn't dead after all! Nearly 4 days later, here she is:

So far I have perfectly hit the 50% eclipse to non-eclipse chance.

#2 Update:
My favorite so far! This one might be a keeper. I had quite a bit of trouble getting her to eat on her own, but she is eating with only a little bit of help now.
