And I have no humid hide yet.
I just got him a few days ago (he was a rescue) so I havent had the chance to make him a humid hide yet. But I have a few questions, first of all, should I just soak some paper towels and put them in the hide he is in now?
Second of all, I have seen some people say something along the lines of putting him in shallow water, if I do this, what temperature should the water be and how long do I leave him there?

I have a moist hide for my little girl but when i see her shedding i usually put her under some luke warm water (she seems to enjoy it) and the skin falls off, I help around the toes though. for the most part she sheds really good though. She lives in her moist hide.

edit: not fully submerged just under running water

If you have a cheap ziploc container you can easily make a humid hide out of it just cut or melt a hole in it and fill it with damp papertowel or moss.

i use my kitchen faucet.... or you could use some warm water in a misting bottle.... I place her back in the warm side of her tank after spraying her though, so the water doesnt make her cold.

Correct. The guy who had it before didnt have ANYTHING proper for it, so come saturday when I get paid, it will have everything it needs, hopefully.

Also, on this shedding thing, how long should I wait before I try to help it out? A few hours after it starts? A day? or immediately?

Sorry for the double post, but in the mean time, I dampened a paper towel and placed it under the hide it uses the most. Hopefully this will do something for it.

if you just mist her/him then you really shouldnt need to help... I just do it to do it. watch the toe area though, make sure the shed comes off.

If your gecko is ok with being handled, then help whenever you want. I usually help mine just to make sure nothing gets stuck to their little toes.

It will depend a little on the humidity or lack of in your house. While I don't live in a humid climate my geckos have never had shed problems.. even when I got busy and forgot to mist them for a day. a day they happened to shed. They always have water dishes however, so maybe they just took a bath. I have been good with misting them currently, but that was when I finally had one with a stuck shed on some toes. So it was kind of ironic how that worked out (though it was a new gecko so more to do with just the individual not the environment. I gave him a couple of days before taking matters into my own hands. I tried the mist the whole tank think first but ended up q-tipping him in some shallow water I placed over his heat pad.

You can mist the cage and just watch the gecko to see if there are problems. I wouldn't go crazy with handling it unless there were problems if it's a new addition.

IMO, no reason to soak unless there are shedding issues. Just give em a humid hide, mines a upside down butter container with a hole in it and wet papper towels.

Also, it looks confusing, all these posts on misting vs. soaking vs. running faucets. (??!)

Putting damp paper towels in the hide you have will work fine for now.
A gecko that doesn't know you yet will probably freak out if you try placing it under running water. My geckos know me and can't stand running water.

If you do have to soak, lukewarm (think baby bottle temperature) water in a dish or bowl up to the geckos belly should suffice. Soaks are generally not needed for everyday shedding, as mentioned above. Butter tubs and gladware are easy fixes if you need something right away.

As far as I know, misting is not recommended for leos.
You can do it, I just don't understand why.
(no offense meant to those that may mist?)
